The slowing economy shows no signs of slowing Chinese travelers.
According to Hotels.com's fifth annual Chinese International Travel Monitor (CITM), 92 percent of Chinese travelers plan to increase or at least maintain their current spending on travel moving forward.
What's more, one-third plan to spend more on travel in the coming year.
A big reason for Chinese travelers' dedication is the important role it plays in their lives, with two-thirds indicating travel is an essential part of life.
Roughly 120 million Chinese travelers ventured overseas last year and China remains the top global spender in terms of tourism expenditure, Hotels.com found.
Chinese millennials spend approximately 27 percent of their income on travel, according to the survey data. While that figure represents the most of any other generation, a majority of Chinese travelers are prepared to spend roughly one-quarter of their income on travel.
Hotel Preferences
According to surveyed hoteliers, the most notable changes to Chinese travelers have been improved English, an emphasis on value and rising expectations, among other things.
When it comes to the most common requests Chinese travelers have of U.S. hoteliers, complimentary Wi-Fi takes the top spot with three-fourths of visitors seeking free Internet service.
Smoking rooms (20 percent), Chinese tea (17 percent), a kettle (16 percent) and translated travel guides (13 percent) round out the top five most common requests.
Top Destinations
The most popular cities for Chinese travelers include New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, according to Hotels.com's China website.
As for famous landmarks, the Grand Canyon is No. 1 among Chinese travelers. However the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt and Japan's Mount Fuji are also among the most coveted attractions.
In terms of spending, Chinese travelers visiting Honolulu, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Miami and Seattle paid the most in 2015, the study found. Internationally, Chinese visitors spent the most in London, Dubai and Milan.
