The Queen Mary, the retired ocean liner that has been turned into a luxury hotel and event center in Long Beach, California, is adding a special attraction that will help attract more children to the venue; the world's largest LEGO brick ship model.
According to the Queen Mary, a huge model of the historic ship made entirely of LEGO bricks will be put on display starting on July 4 inside a portion of the vessel called The Shipyard, and it will be surrounded by building stations where children and adults can build their own models.
The replica was built by an English company called Bright Bricks. The piece consists of more than 250,000 individual LEGO bricks, and took four professional builders an astounding four months and 600 builder hours to complete.
The Queen Mary's general manager John Jenkins released a statement about the addition of the LEGO replica, saying, "I can't wait to see the look on the faces of the children who come to the exhibit and are confronted by this magnificent LEGO brick model. And for those tall enough; some children might notice a tiny top-hatted mini-figure of Sir Winston walking the upper deck."
The official Twitter account of the International Maritimes Museum shared a photo of the Lego ship and The Brick Show shared a video of the historic ship model on YouTube:
For those LEGO fanatics looking for details about the size of the model, the replica of the Queen Mary measures 25 feet, 11 inches long. With a width of over three feet (3'1") and sitting at over four feet tall (4'7"), the model weighs in at 604 pounds.
