There’s been a lot of new hotel and resort openings and development news in April. While we’ve also covered deals and some exciting Travel Advisor Appreciation Month news to check out for May, down below are the top trending stories you should know from this past month.

New Openings
Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls, Canada (Photo Credit: Supplied)
First up, Hyatt celebrated the opening of the Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview, part of its Classics Portfolio. The hotel, which was a conversion property, provides guests with 42 rooms and 611 premium rooms and suites, many of which offer stunning views of the natural wonder.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is applauding the addition of its 100th property in Mexico. The hotel giant doubled its footprint in Mexico in just five years. While it didn’t state exactly which property was its 100th, recent highlights include partnerships with Grupo MX Hotels, Decameron All-Inclusive Hotels & Resorts and Palladium Hotel Group.
Prestigious independent hotel group, Small Luxury Hotels of the World, welcomed 29 properties to its portfolio in the first quarter of the year, with properties from California to Ireland being added to the portfolio. This will provide luxury travelers prioritizing smaller, boutique-style travel experiences with more great options.
Upcoming Hotels & Resorts

Marriott is rapidly expanding its reach in Greece, signing two new properties in April: a Residence Inn by Marriott in Athens and the Le Méridien Sissi Crete, expected to open in 2027. Other properties include those opening this year: Hymnos, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Zakynthos; The Tenant, Heraklion Crete, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and Orosea, Paros, Autograph Collection.
Choice Hotels International’s Sleep Inn brand is getting a big makeover: the next-generation Scenic Dreams brand. The new prototype brand will be tested with four new hotels in Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Nevada.
Hilton is expanding its resorts in the Bahamas, announcing a new resort called Paradise Breeze Nassau, expected to open in 2028. It will become part of the Curio Collection by Hilton and feature 125 oceanview rooms, three dining venues, several pools and thousands of square feet of mixed-use event spaces.
Sports Illustrated is quickly making its way into the hotel scene with a new resort planned for Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The property, which will open in late 2027, is a conversion property and will provide easy access to both the Mississippi River and the Louisiana State University campus.
All-inclusive resort brand Club Med announced a new Exclusive Collection resort will be coming to Koh Samui, Thailand, in 2028. The property will be the third Exclusive Collection resort in Asia and the second Club Med resort in Thailand, offering a family-friendly luxury with 303 rooms, a private beach and so much more.
Lastly, but certainly not least, is one for the Disney lovers. Disney Vacation Club has shared new details about its Disney Lakeshore Lodge, expected to open in summer, 2027 as the brand’s newest vacation club property in Florida. Disney Lakeshore Lodge will pay homage to the many Disney stories featuring the natural world, including “Bambi,” and “Brother Bear.”
