Sandals Resorts International is planning to build a 600-room Beaches resort on Jamaica's southwest coast.
The property would be adjacent to the existing Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa. The new Beaches resort would be spread over 140 acres of the 500-acre property and include a Greg Norman-designed golf course.
Beaches is Sandals' family-focused brand. Earlier this year Sandals announced it will convert the company's Grand Pineapple resort in Antigua to a Beaches property. The company also operates Beaches resorts in Negril and Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos.
In other company developments, Adam Stewart, Sandals' CEO, said five over-the-water suites at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay will be constructed within the next 10 months. The company has temporarily shelved its plans for the over-the-water suites in St. Lucia, he said. The company also plans to re-name its Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios, Stewart said.
