Maybe you only know of Lake Titicaca by its unusual name, or even the scene in the film "Groundhog Day" where Bill Murray correctly answers a question on Jeopardy about the Peruvian body of water.
If that's all you know, you're missing out.
If you've ever dreamed of a vacation on a private island where the rest of the world seems far away, then Esteves in Lake Titicaca, Peru, is the place in your dreams.
But if you think that vacationing here means that you're secluded from modern technologies and conveniences and that there's nothing to do, think again.
Bringing together the best of both worlds, Esteves has only one road leading into it and one private pier for boats. When you arrive, the stress of your everyday life will melt to the wayside as you enjoy a megadose of rest and relaxation.
Stay at the island's Libertador Lake Titicaca, located in the bay of Puno on a rocky hill surrounded by totorales, which are actually used to make the floating Uros Islands. While in Lake Titicaca, take a boat ride on the lake over to the islands and visit the people who call this area home. Stay in a host home where you will learn how the islanders live and cook, and taste their food. Purchase a handmade wearing souvenir to take back with you. You can even ride in a reed boat that was crafted with the totorales.

After your trip back to Libertador Lake Titicaca, enjoy rest and relaxation in this 123-room hotel, which is located about 45 minutes away from the Manco Capac Juliaca International Airport. Sit back and sip a cocktail on the terrace of the Taquile bar, located at the highest point of the island, and enjoy a spectacular view of the lake. Enjoy an authentic Peruvian dinner with local ingredients and favorites such as quinoa, chuño (potato flour), coca, trout, pejerrey (Peruvian silverside) or alpaca (yes, it's commonly eaten as a meal and used for its wool products).
When you're ready for another jaunt off the island, you can also take a tour of Sillustani, an archaeological site of the ancient Tiwanaku culture. This is a pre-Incan burial ground with above ground tombs located in chullpas. These cylindrical tombs, also called funerary towers, are scattered around the region and have the remains of entire Inca families, along with anything they would need to go into the next world. Unfortunately, none of the burials are still there, but the towers are still a sight to see.
Lay your head down in one of the hotel rooms that also comes with a 32-inch LCD TV with cable for days you just can't unplug from the modern world, as well as a desk, air conditioning and heating. There is also a gym, and a Jacuzzi and dry sauna to ease your tired muscles. Libertador Lake Titicaca is definitely a secluded paradise, but if you are looking for a great place to combine business and pleasure, it also comes equipped with a complete business center, executive meeting rooms, and movie projector room for presentations.
And don't forget to take a walk around the island, because that's what being on a private island is all about. Doing nothing.
