Within a few days of Hurricane Irma setting upon the Sunshine State, I was besieged by e-mails from beach resorts in the area, all with the same message: "We're open and ready to receive visitors."
Fall is typically a fantastic time for well-priced weekend deals in Florida. School is back in session and the cycle of holiday and winter and spring school breaks hasn't yet begun to fill hotel rooms and attractions. As a result, there are less crowded beaches and hot spots, giving the entire region a somewhat less frenzied vibe than during higher-octane times of the year.
Here are three great South Florida resorts serving up deals for weekenders.
Check Out the Updated W Fort Lauderdale
W Hotels are the ultra-hip cousins of Westin Hotels & Resorts, so they need updating every few years to keep up with the trends. The W Fort Lauderdale underwent a top-to-bottom redo of guest rooms, public spaces and the legendary rooftop pool decks this year.
Now, the work is complete and the hotel is ready for your weekend adventure. The hotel is beachfront and has an Instagram-worthy pool scene with great views of the coast.
Guests who stay two nights will receive the third night free plus receive a $50 resort credit and room upgrade upon availability. Rates start at $144 per night plus tax and are subject to availability. To book, visit the hotel's website and use code Z3R.
Escape to Tranquil Marriott Stanton South Beach
South Miami Beach is hardly known for calm reserve, but the Marriott Stanton South Beach occupies a prime oceanfront space with beach access on Ocean Drive, cozied up next to a quiet park. Guests are close to all the action South Beach has to offer or they can spend the weekend sipping cocktails by a pair of beachfront pools.
For stays booked through October 31 and for travel by December 22, guests can enjoy up to 20 percent off regular rates when booking in advance by visiting the hotel's website and using code ADP.

Enjoy the Upper Keys at Playa Largo with a Resort Credit
While some keys received a direct hit from the hurricane, the Upper Keys were spared the worst and they're again ready to receive guests. Playa Largo Resort & Spa in Key Largo, offers 14 acres of private beach, sparkling pool and amenities such as bike rentals, tennis and basketball courts, bocce ball and jogging paths. The resort suffered no structural damage from the storm.
For guests booking a longer stay of three nights or more (not necessarily over a weekend) simply use code ZX0 to book and travel by December 24 (subject to availability). I found rates from $249 plus taxes and resort fee.
