August is a great time to visit Mexico City. At an average elevation of over 8,000 feet, daytime temperatures are mild and evenings definitely require a sweater. Mexico City (which is known throughout Mexico as "D.F.") is one of the largest metropolitan areas in Latin America with no shortage of attractions and sights. It's also one of the most overlooked destinations in Mexico by tourists, translating into cheaper hotel rooms on weekends when most commercial traffic has left the city. Typically most discounted during the weekends are hotels and room types popular with business travelers, such as luxury properties and higher-end suite accommodations.
Lap of Luxury plus free breakfast at St. Regis Mexico City
One of the great things about Mexico City is that there are many hotel properties belonging to the world's most beloved luxury brands, and they're available for rates that are typically lower than what one might expect in other countries. The St. Regis Mexico City is one of the St. Regis properties that extends butler service to all room categories (some U.S. and European St. Regis properties only offer the service to guests staying in suites) and overlooks the tony Paseo de la Reforma. For the weekend of Aug. 13, flexible rates including breakfast are available from $290.
Summer Specials and Free Nights at the Four Seasons
Nearby the St. Regis is the sumptuous Four Seasons Mexico City, which offers a similar luxury value for weekend travelers. Those staying at least three nights can enjoy a third night free (the rate works out to $280 per night with the free night) while those traveling on shorter stays can take advantage of the Summer Special rate, which includes free overnight parking, internet and continental breakfast for up to two adults and two children under the age of 12 from $315 per night. Mezcal fans can sample the hotel's limited edition Mezcal from Wahaka Mezcal at the Fifty Mils lounge.

Suite discounts at JW Marriott
The JW Marriott Mexico City, also in Polanco, is offering discounts on suites during the weekends through Sept. 18. Although standard rooms start at $161 for Marriott Rewards Members, the Corner View Park Suite, normally $429, is available for $275 for arrivals on August 12 or 13. In addition to the extra space and the view, guests booking this room category also have access to the 24-hour executive lounge, with four complimentary food and beverage presentations each day.
