Delta Air Lines was forced to stop meal service for over 200 flights out of Detroit over the weekend due to a “food safety issue.”

According to Local12.com, the meal service facility at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was shut down on Friday after Delta was notified that Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agents had found a “food safety issue” during an inspection.

“During a recent inspection at a DTW [Detroit Metro Airport] kitchen, Delta's catering partner was notified of a food safety issue within the facility,” an airline spokesperson said. “Delta and its catering partner immediately shut down hot food production and subsequently suspended all activity from the facility.”

The carrier revealed plans to improve how it prepares both hot and cold food to restore meal service to impacted flights. A Delta spokesperson said, “hot food and other onboard provisioning will be managed from other facilities.”

“We will continue to take necessary precautions to ensure food safety,” the statement concluded.

In July, passengers aboard a Delta flight bound for Amsterdam were served spoiled food and received treatment from emergency medical responders. In total, 12 passengers were treated because of the spoiled food ingestion.
