Last week, a drunken passenger on a Turkish Airlines flight was arrested for throwing a punch at one of the attendants on the plane, but he will not serve any jail time.
According to The Sun, 40-year-old Guy Lardinois from Belgium was on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Manchester Thursday when one of the flight attendants asked him if he had been smoking in one of the bathrooms onboard.
Lardinois denied the claims and demanded another drink following the four previous gin and tonics he admitted to drinking. Shortly after, he began shouting, stood up and starting walking toward the attendant. The drunken passenger then allegedly threw a punch at the woman, but she managed to block his strike with her hands.
When Lardinois attempted to punch the flight attendant, another passenger on the plane tackled him and took him to the ground, breaking his leg in the scuffle. When the plane finally arrived at Manchester Airport's Terminal 1, police boarded the flight and arrested Lardinois.
As a result of the incident, Lardinois pleaded guilty to common assault and being drunk while on a flight. He was ordered to pay a fine of £600 and sentenced to six months in prison, but the decision was suspended for two years.
Lardinois' defense lawyer told the court that his client was ashamed of his actions and that the incident was, "so out of character - he is utterly ashamed of himself. He's let himself down by his foolishness on this flight."
