American Airlines announced that it had resolved the technical
glitch that forced a temporary full ground stop of flights on Christmas Eve.
According to Reuters.com,
American revealed that a vendor technology issue briefly impacted its ability
to get planes in the air, without identifying the provider. The issue was
reportedly the inability of an automated system to calculate or deliver weight
and balance data required to legally dispatch each flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requested a ground
stop for all of American Airlines’ flights on Tuesday after a technical issue
plagued the carrier.
According to ABCNews.com, an American spokesperson said the
airline was “experiencing a technical issue” with all flights. “Your safety is
our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we'll have you safely on your way
to your destination,” the statement continued.
The carrier reported that it did not yet have a
"timeframe" but that "they're trying to fix it in the shortest
possible time."
American released a comment to ABC News, saying, “Our teams
are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we apologize to
our customers for the inconvenience.”
The ground stop and flight disruptions could not have come
at a worse time for American, as the busy winter holiday travel period is in
full swing. The airline revealed earlier this month that it would offer more
than 118,000 flights and carry an estimated 12.7 million customers between
December 18 and January 6.
American revealed that Friday, December 27 will be the
most-traveled day, followed by Friday, December 20. The airline’s 1,500
mainline and regional aircraft will fly more than 102 million miles during the
holiday period.
