On Monday, post-holiday travel will be impacted by Winter Storm Europa as it continues to move into parts of the Northeast, bringing with it snow, sleet and freezing rain.
While flights have been largely unaffected, travel by road could become extremely hazardous as the storm progresses. According to Weather.com, highways across the Dakotas and Wyoming have been closed due to the blizzard, which took place over the weekend, and a snow emergency has been declared in Bismarck, North Dakota. Blizzard warnings are still in effect for North Dakota and parts of South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana.
As Winter Storm Europa continues moving east, winter weather advisories have been issued for areas as far south as Pennsylvania and New Jersey and as far north as Maine. Residents in the impacted areas should expect some snow, sleet or freezing rain Monday.
In the Plains, leftover snow will continue to fall and blowing and drifting will remain an issue. Weather.com is forecasting another one to three inches of snow in the northern Plains, northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin Monday. Road closures continue to be widespread in the region.
As for the Northeast, ice is possible in parts of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine Monday morning. The conditions will lead to icy roads and power outages, so travelers are being warned to extra precautions.
In parts of New York and Pennsylvania, lighter ice accumulations are possible.
