Abercrombie & Kent added four new programs to its Marco Polo Journeys series of "itineraries designed to reveal the world in unique and surprising ways."
The trips are conceived around festivals, events, culture and wilderness adventure and are punctuated by local encounters. Groups are limited in size to 18 guests per departure.
New for 2016 is the Easter Island and the Tapati Festival, a program based on the festival of the isolated Rapa Nui culture, the moai statues, the Rano Raraku volcano and a dinner with a Rapa Nui family in their home. The eight-day program is priced from $7,795 per person.
Scotland and Ireland by Luxury Train includes four nights traveling on the luxurious Belmond Grand Hibernian train, a stay at the Old Course at St. Andrews, a tour of a whisky distillery, Loch Leven Castle, Falkland Palace, Blarney Castle and the Cliffs of Moher. The tour is priced from $11,995.
Petra to the Pyramids and a Nile Yacht Cruise travels the Nile River in the Sanctuary brand cruiser Zein Nile Chateau, a luxury dahabeah. The exploration of Egypt is guided by an Egyptologist. It includes entry into one of the Great Pyramids, a visit to the ancient capital of Memphis and then a trip to Jordan to experience the lost city of Petra and the desert of Wadi Rum. The 14-day trip is priced from $9,895 per person.
Sri Lanka: The Complete Island explores UNESCO World Heritage Sites Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first royal capital. The program includes game drives in Yala National Park, where some of the world's largest leopard populations live. Also included is a visit with a local family in Kandy, a train trip to Sri Lanka's tea country, an encounter with the Tamil culture and a tour of the garden estate of the late Geoffrey Bawa, sometimes known as the "father of Asian architecture." The 15-days trip is priced from $8,395 per person.
