CIE Tours is continuing its sustainability transition by signing the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, committing to reduce emissions by at least 50 percent over the next ten years and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
The tour operator specializing in Ireland and Great Britain has also appointed Ken Lyons as its first Sustainability Manager. Lyons brings over 15 years of experience in tourism and hospitality to the role.
CIE Tours calculated its 2022 carbon emissions across all its operations and has in place three goals to complete by 2030: a 50 percent reduction in corporate emissions, a 50 percent reduction in emissions from land arrangements and a 25 percent reduction in aviation emissions.
The operator implemented a pilot program with industry suppliers to gather more data and to establish benchmarks to help achieve these goals. Partners include Guinness Storehouse, Aer Lingus and Cronin’s Coaches, who are running CIE Tours’ 2024 Irish Gold tours with biofuel.
"We’re committed not only to doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint, but to be among those advancing sustainability practices within our industry," said Stephen Cotter, managing director of CIE Tours. "Our commitment to the Glasgow Declaration and the appointment of Ken Lyons as Sustainability Manager underscores our dedication to championing the future of sustainable travel.”
