Starting April 1, tour operator Intrepid Travel will be resuming its planned tours to Egypt, though trips to Jordan and Oman are canceled through April 15 for the time being.
According to the operator, Intrepid postponed all its trips to Egypt two weeks ago when the war in the Middle East began. Since then, 161 American travelers canceled their trips, with departures from March through May.
“Travel has always been one of the most powerful ways to support local communities,” says Leigh Barnes, President of the Americas, Intrepid Travel. “Being able to return to Egypt means visitors can experience an incredible destination while helping bring much-needed income back to the guides, small businesses and families who rely on tourism.”
Those who are unable to reach Egypt due to flight cancellations caused by the war will receive a 100 percent credit for their land trip.
Those who have cancelled their trips will be able to rebook a trip to another destination, receive 100 credit for the value of the land portion or request a refund with 20 percent unrecoverable costs. Customers under package regulations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region are entitled to a full refund.
Prior to the war, premium Egypt departures in February were up 196 percent year-over-year, as more and more Americans desired to visit the country.
