Travel Bound has instituted a new two-hour "mistake forgiveness" cancellation policy for travel agents.
Under the new policy, nonrefundable purchases can be canceled within the first two hours after booking.
In effect, the nonrefundable condition does not go into effect for two hours after the official booking. Any time before that two-hour limit, the booking can be canceled.
The policy change was aimed at fixing an inadequacy in the previous system of making nonrefundable hotel bookings electronically. Previously, if a travel agent made a mistake while making a nonrefundable booking, there was no way of pulling it back and trying again. Now there is.
"Non-refundable hotel rooms often have attractive rates," said Elizabeth Crabill, president of Travel Bound. "But the travel agent typically has no recourse if a mistake is made when making the reservation.
The refund is not automatic, however.
Travel agents have two hours in which to cancel a booking on the site, but to complete the process they must follow up with an e-mail within 48 hours stating the booking number and requesting a cancellation waiver.
