On Wednesday, insightCuba announced the launch of a four-day Varadero and Havana vacation package that will take travelers to two of the most popular destinations in Cuba on a shorter trip for a more affordable price.
The travel packages are offered for bimonthly departures which run from December 2016 through April 2018, but one option garnering plenty of attention is the chance to spend New Year's in Cuba with a trip running from Dec. 30 through Jan. 2, 2017.
The four-day Varadero and Havana vacation package starts at $1,995 per person (double occupancy), and includes three nights at the all-inclusive Melia Varadero resort, guided people-to-people excursions, all meals at the hotel, certification of travel to Cuba, all proper insurances and all fees associated with scheduled activities and approved transportation.
"While the start of U.S. commercial flights to Cuba has made the destination much more accessible, it's also caused a lot of confusion about how to book a vacation on one's own, since confirming hotels and tours is just not easy," insightCuba president Tom Popper said in a statement.
"This is no ordinary Caribbean island; American credit cards are not yet accepted and people-to-people rules are still in effect," Popper continued. "So, with new flights to Varadero and the trend toward shorter itineraries, we designed a Thursday-to-Sunday trip to suit those seeking a long weekend in Cuba. With the day trip to Havana included, and a lower price point, we anticipate strong demand."
On the first day of the trip, travelers will arrive at Varadero's Juan Gualberto Gomez Airport and then transported to the Melia Varadero beach resort. After enjoying the resort, tourists will have ample options for Day 2 of the excursion, including a journey to the town of Cardenas where they will be able to visit the Sugar Cane Museum, take a ride on the Sugar Cane antique train and explore the splendor of the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve.
Day 3 will feature a drive along the coast en route to Havana, where guests will spend the whole day. Travelers will visit Old Havana, sightsee in Centro Havana, Vedado and Miramar, ride along Malecon, see the home of author Ernest Hemingway-dubbed Finca Vigia-and eventually finish the night by dining at an authentic Cuban restaurant.
The fourth day of the trip is for travelers to enjoy at leisure.
While prices start at $1,995 per person, children under the age of two travel free, and kids 12-years-old and under will receive a 50-percent discount when sharing a room with two adults. There are also discounts available for groups.
