The moon is
Earth’s constant companion — a steady presence in the night sky that has long
guided navigators, shaped calendars and sustained coastal ecosystems. Now, that
enduring influence is reflected in the name and theme of Norwegian
Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian
Luna.
“Just as the moon
has led the way for generations, Luna is set to lead the way in our industry,”
said Robert Lundberg, Luna’s captain, at the vessel’s christening ceremony at
PortMiami in late March. “She will guide us toward new horizons and unforgettable
experiences at sea.”
The
3,565-passenger, 156,000-gross-ton ship is the 21st vessel in Norwegian Cruise
Line’s fleet and the second in its Prima Plus Class, following sister ship
Norwegian Aqua. Luna boasts a wide variety of accommodations, activities,
dining options and entertainment, all designed to attract the cruise line’s
target market of premium, multigenerational families.

Accommodations
With 1,809
staterooms, Luna presents travelers with everything from snug solo studios and
bright oceanview cabins to spacious family balcony suites. Those looking for a
more exclusive, upscale experience can retreat to The Haven by Norwegian, the
line’s ship-within-a-ship concept featuring a private sundeck, infinity pool,
restaurant and bar.
Onboard Dining
Norwegian Cruise
Line president Marc Kazlauskas — a self-described foodie — calls Luna an
"incredible culinary journey." The ship has 18 bars and lounges and
17 dining options, featuring more than 15 varieties of international cuisines.
Families will find bites to suit every palate at Indulge Food Hall, home to
nine stations with made-to-order dishes from around the world. The ship’s
specialty restaurants also explore global cuisines, such as Thai at Sukhothai,
Mediterranean at Palomar and Italian at Onda by Scarpetta.

Public Areas
Families will
undoubtedly gravitate toward the ship’s top decks, home to attractions such as
the Aqua Slidecoaster — a cross between a waterslide and rollercoaster — and
The Drop, a 10-story dry slide. Luna Midway offers carnival-inspired games,
while Luna Game Zone is brimming with both retro arcade games and modern
virtual-reality experiences.

Luna are Moon Climber — a colorful, multilevel obstacle course designed for
kids and adults — and Horizon Park, an open-air hangout spot near the Kids Aqua
Park.

The main pool deck
features two hot tubs and abundant seating. Travelers can also cool off at two
Infinity Beaches—one on each side of the ship — which are home to infinity
pools, lounge chairs and daybeds.
There is also Vibe
Beach Club, a serene, adults-only space with an oversize hot tub and loungers,
plus perks such as chilled towels and fruit skewers. For even more tranquility,
Mandara Spa has an adults-only thermal suite with saunas, a steam room, an ice
room and vitality pools.

Entertainment
Entertainment is a
major priority for Norwegian Cruise Line, and that focus is on full display
onboard Luna. The ship is debuting several new shows, which were developed at
the 68,000-square-foot NCLH Creative Studios facility near Tampa, Florida.
Fans of the
legendary British artist will love "Elton: A Celebration of Elton
John," an immersive production with high-energy choreography, over-the-top
costumes and archival footage. Another throwback is "Syd Norman’s
Presents: A Tribute to The Eagles," a concert-style, main-stage production
featuring classic hits such as "Hotel California" and
"Desperado."
Also new for Luna
are "Hiko: Innovation Meets Wonder," a sci-fi-inspired multimedia
production with cirque-style acrobatics and contemporary dance, and
"LunaTique: Pop Circus," a cheeky interactive show with themed
cocktails for guests 21 and older.

Itineraries
Luna will spend
its inaugural season sailing from Miami, offering three- and four-day Bahamas
voyages, as well as seven-day Caribbean itineraries. In April 2027, the ship
will move to New York City, sailing four- to seven-day Bermuda voyages.
The ship’s
scheduled ports include Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s 270-acre
private island in the Bahamas, which is in the middle of a $150 million
expansion. Already, the company has added a welcome plaza, a tram service, a
splash pad and Great Life Lagoon, a 1.4-acre heated pool area. Crews have also
completed the new Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only area with a private beach,
loungers, cabanas and a bar.
This summer, the
brand is slated to open Great Tides Waterpark, as well as a new pier that will
accommodate two ships simultaneously.
