New Flight Routes Taking Off This Winter

As travelers slowly return to the skies, major airlines continue to resume service and launch seasonal routes for the holidays. Here are some of the notable new flight options that travelers can look forward to in the weeks to come.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines will launch a slew of routes this winter, beginning on December 17. Starting then, the carrier will connect Los Angeles with multiple destinations, including Salt Lake City, Kona, Kauai, Cancun and Reno. Seasonal service launching December 17, 2020 - April 12, 2021, includes Palm Springs-Boise and Palm Springs-Reno.

Allegiant Air

Allegiant Air recently launched more than a half-dozen routes connecting travelers with warm-weather destinations and popular winter getaways, including Palm Springs-Boise; Nashville-Bozeman, Montana; Chicago-Punta Gorda, Florida and Boston-Sarasota, Florida.

American Airlines

American Airlines is adding routes to Key West, Florida this winter and also plans to resume international service to a handful of European and South American destinations from major U.S. cities, including Amsterdam, London, Paris, Munich and Sao Paulo, among others.

Delta Air Lines

Delta plans to add up to four-times-weekly services between Tokyo and Honolulu in December. The carrier, which is limiting capacity to keep middle seats open on flights departing now until March 30, 2021, is also planning to launch four-times-weekly service between New York City (JFK) and Lagos, Nigeria on December 10 and three-times-weekly service between Atlanta and Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13.

Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines is rolling out five-times-weekly service between Providence, Rhode Island and Miami beginning December 17. The carrier will also expand the frequency of service between Providence and Orlando and Tampa next month, expanding to twice daily and daily, respectively, on December 17. What's more, Frontier is expanding service from Long Island to Orlando to four-times-weekly starting December 17.

JetBlue

JetBlue is also expanding its route map this winter, connecting Los Angeles with Charleston, Raleigh, Richmond and San Jose, Costa Rica on December 18. JetBlue will also start service between Fort Lauderdale and Palm Springs on December 17, followed by flights between Fort Lauderdale and Bozeman on December 18. The carrier will also launch once-daily flights between Las Vegas and Richmond beginning December 18.

Southwest Airlines

Budget-friendly Southwest Airlines is helping travelers warm up this winter with the rollout of service to Miami and Palm Springs as well as seasonal flights between Telluride and Denver and Dallas beginning December 19.

Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines is ramping up international service from Orlando next month, including four-times-weekly service to Bogota and three-times-weekly service to San Pedro Sula, Honduras beginning on December 4. Spirit will also connect Orlando with Cartagena, Cancun and Guatemala City starting December 16, followed by San Salvador on December 19 and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico starting January 6.

United Airlines

United Airlines will launch daily, year-round service between Washington-Dulles and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic beginning on December 17 before restarting nonstop year-round service between Cleveland and Cancun and Houston and Mazatlan on December 19. United is also increasing connectivity between the West Coast and Central America this winter, starting new three-times-weekly service between Los Angeles and San Pedro Sula, Honduras on December 17 and new Saturday service between L.A. and San Jose, Costa Rica on December 19.
