The Best US Airports for Cheap Flights

Frequent Flight Deals

1/11
The team of experts at Scott's Cheap Flights recently crunched the numbers to find out which airports offer the most frequent deals on domestic flights. The number of airlines serving an airport and the amount of competition on the routes offered are among the biggest factors to determine how frequently flight deals will pop up. Here are the 10 best U.S. airports in terms of deal frequency over the past six months.

10. McCarran International Airport

2/11
With 188 direct domestic routes and a dozen domestic carriers operating out of Sin City, Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport is incredibly competitive and that means deals are relatively frequent. Scott's Cheap Flights has seen a whopping 93 flight deals in the past six months.

9. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

3/11
The world's busiest airport has also seen an impressive amount of deals amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Delta Air Lines hub has produced 95 flight deals in the past six months alone, including roundtrip nonstop flights to Chicago for as low as $49.

8. Orlando International Airport

4/11
According to Scott's Cheap Flights, a fair amount of competition helps make Central Florida's Orlando International Airport and Disney World gateway a frequent site for flight deals. MCO is a hub for Silver Airways, an operating base for JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines and a focus city for budget-friendly Frontier Airlines.

7. Detroit Metropolitan Airport

5/11
In the Midwest, Detroit Metropolitan Airport is also a base for wallet-friendly Spirit Airlines and has produced 97 flight deals in the past six months, including roundtrip nonstop flights to destinations such as Washington, D.C., New York City and Chicago for as little as $57.

6. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

6/11
With 100 flight deals in the past six months, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport ranks sixth-best in the nation for cheap flights. While DFW is American Airlines' largest hub, Scott's Cheap Flights points out that Southwest Airlines' operations out of nearby Dallas Love Field helps create extra competition that makes deals out of DFW more frequent.

5. Denver International Airport

7/11
Airlines are also competing at Denver International Airport. DEN is a hub for both United Airlines and Frontier Airlines and a base for low-cost Southwest Airlines. In total, the airport is served by 12 domestic airlines offering direct service to nearly 190 destinations across the country.

T3. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

8/11
Another Texas airport to crack the top 10, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is tied for the third-best nationwide for cheap domestic flights, producing 106 flight deals over the last six months. Despite offering direct flights to only 56 destinations, AUS is served by 11 different airlines, including budget-friendly Southwest as well as JetBlue and Alaska Airlines.

T3. Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport

9/11
It turns out that the largest and busiest airport in the Upper Midwest is one of the nation's best for cheap flight deals partly due to the presence of ultra-low-cost carrier Sun Country Airlines, which helps create competition and make deals possible on Delta Air Lines and other major domestic carriers.

2. O'Hare International Airport

10/11
Eleven domestic airlines serve 189 domestic destinations directly out of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and nearby Chicago Midway International Airport helps create some competition. Low-cost carrier Southwest serves both airports, helping keep prices low and making more flight deals possible at O'Hare.

1. Los Angeles International Airport

11/11
Los Angeles International Airport is the best in the country when it comes to scoring awesome flight deals of late. LAX is a hub or focus city for more airlines than any other airport in the U.S., resulting in a nation-leading 114 flight deals over the past six months, according to Scott's Cheap Flights. The hub for Alaska, American, Delta, and United and a focus city for JetBlue and Southwest is far from the only option in Southern California, which means competition and an increased likelihood for deals.
