Mexico Travel Restrictions: Hotel Brands Providing Onsite COVID-19 Testing

Hotel brands throughout Mexico have instituted onsite COVID-19 testing for guests, and most cases on a complimentary basis, in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requirement all travelers entering the U.S. from international destinations provide proof of negative COVID tests.

Los Cabos has created a program at all of the destination's hotels, villas and timeshares in the wake of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requirement that all air travelers provide proof of negative COVID-19 tests to enter the U.S. beginning on Jan. 26.

Puerto Vallarta is also offering many options including at medical facilities and at a robust range of properties throughout the region.

Following is a rundown of brands' COVID-19 testing policies.

The company's all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotels in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta; UNICO 20 87 Hotel Riviera Maya; and Nobu Hotel Los Cabos are providing free COVID-19 testing and medical assistance when booking three or more nights by July 31, 2021, for travel between Jan. 26 and Dec. 31, 2021. Guest will receive two free tests per room and can purchase additional tests at a cost of $50 each.

Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts is offering guests free antigen testing through March 31, 2021, with results available with 72 hours. The company's Mexico properties include Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal, Bahia Principe Grand Tulum and Bahia Principe Luxury. Sian Ka'an Bahia Principe Grand Coba is set to reopen in April.

Royalton Luxury Resorts, Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun, Mystique Holbox by Royalton, Royalton CHIC Suites Cancun and Royalton Riviera Cancun are providing free antigen testing onsite through Dec. 31, 2021 for guests staying a minimum of three nights.

The company is providing free onsite antigen tests at Excellence Playa Mujeres, Excellence Riviera Cancun, Finest Playa Mujeres, Beloved Playa Mujeres, and Excellence El Carmen through March 2021. Testing is available in the mornings at the resorts' medical centers, before noon during the week, with results available by the evening. Weekend testing results will be available on Mondays.

Iberostar Group offers on-site, complimentary COVID-19 Antigen tests at its hotels in Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Brazil, and guests interested in taking a PCR test may do so at all locations at a cost.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts is offering free onsite antigen testing at its properties in Riviera Maya, which include Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya, El Dorado Seaside Palms, El Dorado Royale, El Dorado Maroma El Dorado Seaside Suites, El Dorado Casitas Royale, Azul Beach Resort Riviera Cancun and more. The company will provide accommodations to 14 nights.

The company is providing free COVID-19 antigen tests and PCR tests at an additional cost at Live Aqua, Grand Fiesta Americana, Fiesta Americana and Explorean properties. For antigen testing, guests must contact resort concierges 36 hours prior to departure and 72 hours prior to departure for PCR tests. Guests testing positive will receive a discounted nightly rate of $10 per person, plus taxes while quarantining.

Marriott unveiled complimentary onsite antigen and PCR testing at select resorts in Mexico, including JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa; Marriott Cancun Resort; The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun; Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa; W Punta de Mita; The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta; The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort; Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort, Los Cabos; and Zadun, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Guests must stay three or more nights to qualify.

Guests staying a minimum of three nights at the company's Mexico properties will receive free antigen tests. Properties include Paradisus Playa Del Carmen, Paradisus Cancun, Paradisus Los Cabos, ME Cabo, Melia Cozumel and Melia Puerto Vallarta. The resorts will also provide PCR tests with local testing sites.

The company is providing guests with free antigen tests when they stay three or more nights at any of its properties in Mexico, which include, among others, The Pyramid at Grand Oasis, Grand Oasis Cancun, Oasis Palm and Oasis Sens. Through Oasis' Be Free, Stay Safe, Feel Good guarantee, guests who test positive can stay for free for 14 days with a companion.

Palladium Hotel Group is offering guests free onsite antigen testing along with complimentary medical insurance covering medical transfers, extended stays and more. The company is also offering guests PRC tests at a cost, which can be scheduled upon check-in with results available within 72 hours. The company has three properties in Costa Mujeres, four in Riviera Maya and two in Puerto Vallarta.

Playa Hotels & Resorts is offering complimentary antigen testing and negotiated discounted PCR testing at its portfolio of Mexican resorts, which include Hyatt Zilara Cancun, Hyatt Ziva Cancun, Turquoize Cancun, Panama Jack Resorts Cancun, Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, Hilton Playa Del Carmen Adult Resort, Panama Jack Resorts Playa Del Carmen and Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta. The free testing is available through May 31, 2021, for guests staying three or more nights.

Palace and Le Blanc properties are providing guests with antigen tests, which are complimentary for up to two guests per room, with results available within 30 minutes. If a guest tests positive, Palace will cover the cost of quarantine for up to 14 days at no cost. Travelers can schedule their tests when they check-in.

The newly opened Planet Hollywood Cancun and Adults Scene Cancun is offering a free on-site viral test through Dec. 31, 2021, for guests staying a minimum of three nights. Guests should book their test at the guest services desk when checking in. They will receive results within three days of departure.

Sandos is offering free PCR testing for guests staying at its resorts for seven or more nights. Guests who test positive will be accommodated for free for 14 days. The company's hotels include Sandos Cancun, Sandos Caracol, Sandos Finisterra and Sandos Playacar.

The company is featuring onsite antigen and PCR testing, with antigen test results sent via email within 24 hours. Cost and results turnaround for PCR testing is based on each destination. Velas will provide 75 percent discounts on suites for guests who test positive.

Vidanta offers onsite testing (both antigen and PCR) at a preferential cost to guests. Antigen tests at Nuevo Vallarta and Riviera Maya resorts currently feature rates as low as $25, with results delivered within 24 hours.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico is offering complimentary antigen tests through March 31, 2021. PCR tests are available for $140 for guests who request them. In the event that guests test positive, the property will accommodate them in quarantine for 14 days at no cost.
