Marriott published its quarter one economic report in early May. While its revenue was lower than the first quarter of 2023, it boasts a record-breaking development pipeline with around 547,000 rooms across 3,400 properties.

The Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres resort, an adults-only oasis in Playa Mujeres, Mexico announced its opening date of February, 2025. Travelers can book their future stays now.

Las Vegas resort lovers will have something new to love: The Venetian resort will undergo a $1.5 billion renovation. The property-wide renovation will include renovated suites, which will be available to book in September for future stays.

The World Travel & Tourism Council provided some great news for its Hotel Sustainability Basics program: from March to May, it doubled its number of participating hotels, from 1,700 across 70 countries to 3,400 properties across 80 countries. Hotel Sustainability Basics provides an easy to follow program for hotels to start finding ways to lessen their negative impact on the environment.

Beyond Green, Preferred Travel Group's sustainable independent hotel collection, has partnered with andBeyond to add twenty-three new safari lodges and other accommodations in far-flung destinations like Botswana's Okavango Delta and Punakha, Bhutan. The portfolio requires each accommodation to support local communities and have the highest standard of sustainability.

Hyatt broke three records in the first quarter of the year: it reached the highest number of World of Hyatt membership, at 46 million members; its development pipeline is the biggest ever, with 129,000 rooms; and gross fee revenue for the quarter was the highest the hotel giant has ever seen, at $262 million.

IHG Hotels & Resorts celebrated the opening of the Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman on the famed Seven Mile Beach on May 8. The hotel offers 228 rooms and suites, and is focused on design, which features inspiration from the island's culture and its maritime history.

The all-inclusive resort brand Club Med is expanding into a new region in 2028 with the opening of the Club Med Musandam, a 300-room Exclusive Collection resort along the Persian Gulf in the United Arab Emirates.

The iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino announced in May that it would be closing its doors on July 17 after 34 years as a Las Vegas icon. The resort will be replaced with the upcoming Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas.

Travelers can now book stays at the upcoming Almare - A Luxury Collection Adult All-Inclusive Resort on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The 109-suite resort will open November 15, 2024.

In late May, Hilton reported its progress on its 2030 Travel with Purpose goals, which adhere to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Among the updates include a 45.1 percent reduction in carbon emissions from 2008, and a reduction in water usage by 26.5 percent.

Hotel stays are expected to increase this summer, according to a poll published this May by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. The poll found that 31 percent of Americans intend to book more hotel and resort stays this summer, though it also cautioned that inflation is a major obstacle that continues discouraging travelers from everything from staying at a hotel to flying on an airplane.

Hilton CEO Chris Nassetta and other executives spoke at an event in Nashville in late May, celebrating Hilton's record-breaking growth and providing their input into the hotel giant's success, with new brands, expanding destinations and more.

The first-ever Ritz-Carlton Reserve property in the Middle East opened on a private island in the Red Sea off the coast of Saudi Arabia, called Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The exclusive resort is surrounded by the world's fourth-largest barrier reef system and offers 63 overwater and beach villas with private pools.
