With the
cold-weather season barely behind us, Delta
Air Lines is already looking ahead to next winter and planning out more
ways to whisk customers away to warmer climes.
The Big Four carrier
just revealed another expansion to more temperate destinations for the upcoming
winter season. It’s adding four routes—two brand-new and two resumptions—bound
for Latin America, creating its largest-ever network connecting Americans to
the southerly region.
The
new routes include fresh service from Detroit to Providenciales, Turks
& Caicos, and from Boston to Liberia, Costa
Rica. Beginning December 21—prime traveling period for the winter holidays—Delta
will connect Motor City to Providenciales, making it the airline’s fourth Caribbean
destination reachable from Detroit.
According
to The
Points Guy, Cirium schedules show service from the Michigan metropolis is
already available to the Caribbean cities of Montego Bay, Jamaica;
Punta
Cana, Dominican Republic; and San Juan, Puerto
Rico.
Meanwhile, Delta’s
new Boston-to-Liberia flight will commence on January 11, connecting travelers directly
to Costa Rica's popular Guanacaste province, known for its stunning natural
beauty.
Also on January 11,
Delta will resume its previous service from New York to Antigua and St. Kitts.
These flights, which haven't operated since 2021 and 2020 respectively, will
now provide renewed opportunities for travelers to explore these picturesque
Caribbean islands.
These new and returning
additions complement Delta's previously announced expansions in Latin America
for the forthcoming winter season, which include four new destinations new to
the airline: Bridgetown, Barbados;
Puerto Plata, Dominican
Republic; and Mazatlán and Tulum,
Mexico.
In addition, Delta
will be increasing the frequency of its service on an existing route, bumping
up flights from thrice weekly to daily departures bound from Atlanta to
Cartagena,
Colombia. Delta’s other increased flight schedules to Latin America are
already available for sale on its website.
The cumulative
effect of these combined additions has added significantly to Delta’s growth in
Latin America over the past few years. This past winter already saw about a 20-percent increase in capacity
compared to the winter of 2022-2023, according to Cirium schedules. With the route
expansions for the coming winter, Delta will achieve another five-percent
capacity increase and operate the heftiest schedule that it has ever offered to
that particular region.
