Video posted to social media captured the tense moments after an engine malfunction sparked flames on the left wing of a Delta Air Lines flight taking off from São Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday. The Atlanta-bound aircraft was carrying 272 passengers and four crew members when the incident occurred just after takeoff, forcing pilots to return to the airport for an emergency landing.
Fortunately, the plane landed safely and no injuries were reported. Passengers were bused back to the terminal at São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport.
Delta apologized to impacted travelers following the frightening ordeal. "The Airbus A330-300 landed safely and was met by ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting), then customers were taken by bus to the terminal," an airline spokesperson confirmed in a statement."The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority. We apologize to our customers for this delay in their travels."
