For travelers on the West Coast, Alaska Airlines has announced the addition of daily nonstop service between San Diego and Spokane, Washington.
Starting October 1, Alaska's new route between San Diego and Spokane will be the only nonstop flight offered between the two cities. The service will result in the airline offering 46 daily departures to 28 destinations from San Diego International Airport, including the most nonstop flights to Mexico and Hawaii.
The California-Washington route will be flown with Embraer 175 planes, which feature a three-class cabin, including first class and Premium Class. With only window and aisle seats, travelers will not have to deal with sitting in the middle.
"We're excited to add another connection between the Pacific Northwest and California with our new nonstop service between Spokane and San Diego, one of our key focus cities for growth," Alaska Airlines vice president John Kirby said in a statement. "Alaska continues to emphasize our commitment to continued growth and investment throughout the West Coast."
"We're thrilled Alaska Airlines will be adding nonstop service between San Diego and Spokane," San Diego International Airport CEO Kim Becker said. "The economic benefit from adding new routes to San Diego simply can't be overstated. Bringing more people to the region means there are more people spending and investing money here. That helps create jobs and support jobs we already have. We value Alaska's partnership."
Alaska is continuing to make investments in improving nonstop access from key cities in California. The carrier is also improving its onboard experience with the addition of high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, free movies and the introduction of a new food and beverage program.
The San Diego-Spokane route will be part of Alaska's Wine Flies Free program, which allows Mileage Plan members to check an entire case of wine (up to 12 bottles) with no baggage fee.
