A JetBlue plane added an unexpected passenger Friday when an expecting mother went into labor and delivered the baby during a flight to Florida.
According to NBC Miami, JetBlue Flight 1954 was en route from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport when crew members and medical professionals onboard helped a mother deliver the airline’s “youngest customer to date.”
A JetBlue spokeswoman said the plane landed in Fort Lauderdale before 11:30 p.m. Friday and was met by a medical crew that examined the baby and its mother.
Several images surfaced on social media following the midair birth and JetBlue’s official Twitter account said the baby would receive a few extra gifts from the airline:
Giving storks a day off. With mom’s okay, we’d like to rename “Born To Be Blue” after our newest baby blue and our youngest customer ever. More baby shower gifts to come! #AirBorn https://t.co/h7tQRY0lwn

“We’d like to thank the crew and medical professionals on board for their quick action under pressure, and wish the new mother and son all the best,” JetBlue said in a statement. “Flight 1954 was operated on aircraft N523JB, coincidentally named, Born To Be Blue.”
JetBlue also announced plans to rename the plane after the baby, as long as its mother approves, as well as awarding the family several unique gifts. In the past, other airlines have awarded children born on board free flights on their birthdays for life.
