Between the tiny screens and cheap earphones, in-flight entertainment is rarely a memorable experience.
Air France is taking a small step forward to improve that experience for those lucky enough to be flying business class.
Conde Nast Traveler reported that the airline is testing a virtual reality headset system offering immersive 2D and 3D films to business class flyers.
The headsets, designed by SkyLights, will be tested by the airline throughout the month of August on Airbus A340 flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and St. Martin in the Caribbean.
If the tests go well and the headsets receive positive customer feedback, they could start appearing on more flights and eventually be a major part of the Air France entertainment options.
About 40 films are available for viewing on the headsets, as well as a variety of television series. They also come packaged with noise-canceling headphones.

While Air France may be the most notable airline to introduce the headsets, they're not the first.
In January, The Economist reported that XL Airways, a French low-cost carrier, had begun offering virtual reality headsets to customers for a $16 fee.
Quantas introduced a virtual reality system in first class cabins aboard a handful of long-haul routes during 2015 according to Conde Nast. The airline has since created its own VR app.
