Ryanair Issued Compensation Checks that Bounced

Low-cost Irish airline Ryanair has issued an apology to customers after compensation checks they received for canceled flights bounced due to not having a signature from the carrier.
According to The Associated Press, Ryanair officials revealed that a small number of compensation checks were issued without the proper signature due to an administrative error and that new checks have been sent to impacted customers, along with a full explanation.
Out of 20,000 checks issued by the airline in July, only 190 were missing the signature, according to a Ryanair spokesperson. The carrier said, “we apologize sincerely for this inconvenience, which arose out of our desire to issue these compensation checks quickly to our customers.”
Ryanair dealt with a recent string of flight cancellations this summer due to pilot strikes, and the carrier experienced similar troubles last year as well. The European Union requires airlines to issue compensation for canceled flights if the carrier is deemed responsible.
A 2017 report found that hundreds of thousands of U.S. passengers impacted by cancellations and delays lasting three hours or more were entitled to claim more than $413 million in compensation.
