Norwegian Cruise Lines has canceled a cruise.
That, in and of itself, is not big news. Cruise lines cancel itineraries all the time. This one is a bit different, however.
This one is almost two years away.
In order to facilitate its already-scheduled maintenance, the Norwegian Breakaway ship will not be sailing on February 7, 2025. The cruise was set from Miami to Barcelona, Spain. Guests who have already booked the trip have been notified by the cruise line.
As it turns out, the ship will not be in position to facilitate maintenance in Barcelona and will go into dry dock for almost six weeks at another port.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” NCL said in an email to guests.
Passengers will be able to rebook on a different cruise. The Norwegian Breakaway will remain in Spain, after going into dry dock for maintenance, for the summer cruising season in the Mediterranean. The maintenance was already scheduled. It was for technical upgrades and stateroom refurbishments. Guests who were affected by the cancelation will also receive a 10 percent bonus on whatever they paid for the cruise toward a future cruise on Norwegian. The future cruise credit is good until December 31, 2025.
Norwegian does have another transatlantic sailing that leaves a month earlier in January 2025 and comes back to Miami in February of that year. Guests are eligible for their itineraries from the Norwegian Breakaway to the Norwegian Bliss.
