MIAMI—For centuries, the moon has guided mariners safely across the sea, marked time and provided a constant light in the darkness. Now, Earth's natural satellite is lending its name to Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Luna.
The vessel was christened today during a ceremony inside Norwegian Cruise Line’s terminal at PortMiami. Godmother ELLE, the California-based street artist who designed the ship’s hull artwork, bestowed safe passage and good fortune on Norwegian Luna before triggering the traditional smashing of a bottle against the hull.
“Norwegian Luna now begins her own journey,” said Robert Lundberg, captain of Norwegian Luna. “Just as the moon has led the way for generations, Luna is set to lead the way in our industry… She will guide us toward new horizons and unforgettable experiences at sea.”

The 3,565‑passenger Norwegian Luna is now embarking on its christening cruise with a variety of company executives, travel advisors, brand partners and journalists on board. The three-night voyage will take guests to Great Stirrup Cay, the brand’s private destination in the Bahamas, which is undergoing a major expansion.
The cruise line took delivery of the ship in Italy earlier this month. Norwegian Luna welcomed her first guests in Europe, then sailed across the Atlantic to Miami. For the next year, Norwegian Luna will remain homeported in Miami and offer a variety of three- and four-day Bahamas voyages, as well as seven-day Caribbean itineraries. In April 2027, Norwegian Luna will debut in New York City, offering four- to seven-day Bermuda voyages.
The 156,000-gross-ton vessel is the 21st ship in Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet and the second in its Prima Plus Class, joining sister ship Norwegian Aqua. It offers 17 dining options,18 bars and lounges, new entertainment offerings and an array of family-friendly attractions, which together embody the brand’s focus on providing curated, easy and flexible vacations.

“Norwegian Luna is not just a cruise ship,” said Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, at the ceremony. “She is a world-class resort at sea. She’s a playground. She’s a collection of experiences—food, music, energy, quiet moments—stacked deck by deck into something that feels alive. We built something here that brings together generations—families, couples, friends, everyone finding their own version of a perfect vacation.”
