Princess Cruises is celebrating Gavin MacLeod, who parlayed his role as Captain Merrill Stubing on the iconic "Love Boat" TV show into a role as the cruise line's beloved global ambassador, a position he has held for 30 years. And that milestone is being celebrated in grand fashion. The City of Santa Clarita, home of the corporate office of Princess Cruises, is honoring MacLeod by proclaiming July 6 "Gavin MacLeod Princess Cruises Ambassador Day" in a special ceremony hosted by Captain Stubing's TV daughter Jill Whelan, aka "Vicki Stubing."

The celebrated television show sailed onto television sets in 1977 and ran for 10 seasons. It was filmed onboard the Pacific Princess and the Island Princess. Both those ships have been retired from the Princess fleet and later specials were filmed onboard other Princess ships in destinations around the world.
Princess Cruises employees were on hand to salute the captain and celebrate with him on this special day.

In addition, Princess Cruises president, Jan Swartz, plans to announce news about the cruise lines popular "The Voice of the Ocean" singing competition, which makes cruise vacation guests feel like part of the globally popular hit TV show as they perform on a high-tech set with rotating red chairs, a live band and back-up singers.
