Considered by many to be wine-country royalty, California’s Napa Valley offers world-class, award-winning wines and first-class tasting rooms. A stay in this prestigious region, however, doesn’t have to put a major dent in your wallet.

Napa Valley accommodations range from luxurious to historic boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts, with a surprising number of under-the-radar venues offering style, service and sense of place for under $350 a night.

  • Brannan Cottage Inn Brannan Cottage Inn (Calistoga, $340/night). Dating back to 1860, this boutique Calistoga landmark is one of California’s oldest operating hotels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the six-room, Victorian-style cottage delivers on modern-day comforts like heated bathroom floors, pillow-top beds, and large windows overlooking immaculately maintained gardens.
  • Calistoga Wine Way Inn (Calistoga, $189/night). As Calistoga’s earliest bed and breakfast, this historic Arts and Crafts home is steeped in period details, including a cozy parlor with original oak detailing. All of the eight beautifully appointed rooms feature private baths. Silverado or Lakoya also features in-room jetted tubs and fireplaces.
  • Calistoga Motor Lodge (Calistoga, $240/night). A 1947 motor lodge, this retro-chic hotel has vintage camper-style rooms, an outdoor mineral pool and indoor whirlpool fed by the property’s own mineral springs, a bocce court, and a “mix your own” mud bar. The restaurant, Fleetwood Calistoga serves Mediterranean-inspired, wood-fired cuisine in a trendy space with regular live music.
  • The George (Napa, $275/night). Once known as the storied Napa Inn, this grand downtown mansion with a speakeasy has been reborn as a nine-room luxury boutique hotel walking distance from sights like The Uptown Theater and the Oxbow Public Market.
  • Casa Mani Resort Napa Valley, Curio Collection by Hilton (Napa, $272/night). Recently reintroduced as part of Hilton’s Curio Collection following a comprehensive redesign and conversion of the former property, this 205-room/suites Mediterranean-style resort sits just a mile from Downtown Napa. The resort is situated across seven acres of landscaped grounds with towering California redwoods, fragrant rose gardens and a showstopping outdoor pool.
  • Napa River Inn (Napa, $350/night). A National Trust Historic Hotel of America, the Inn anchors the historic Napa Mill, which features shops, restaurants, and a live entertainment venue. The 66 guest rooms are spread between three distinct buildings along the waterfront and the inn’s spa features organic, wild-harvested products from local purveyors.
  • Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa (Napa, $293/night). An outdoor pool framed by redwood trees and firepits is the social heart of this 275-room resort with extensive grounds, conveniently located near the Robert Mondavi Winery, Castello Di Amorosa, and downtown Napa's restaurants and shopping. Families can borrow frisbees, paddle boards, telescopes, yard games and other kid-friendly pursuits for use on- and off-property.
  • The Westin Verasa Napa (Napa, $294/night). Home to the award-winning French cuisine served at executive chef Ken Frank’s La Toque, the riverside hotel is within walking distance to more than 15 restaurants in downtown Napa.  Amenities include a gym (complete with Peloton bikes and garden views) and a heated saltwater pool and hot tub.
  • Best Western Plus Inn at the Vines (Napa, $188/night). One of Napa’s most wallet-friendly stays, this Best Western Plus offers amenities you wouldn’t necessarily associate with a budget hotel: an outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, and bright, spacious rooms, some with private balconies.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Napa Valley American Canyon (American Canyon, $120/night). This environmentally friendly hotel (with LEED gold certification) is located nine miles south of the city of Napa and easily accessible via Highway 29, a main artery in the valley. Features include a lagoon-facing outdoor pool (where you might catch a glimpse of a passing black-neck swan) and Eastern-style reflexology massages in the tropically inspired Spa Gaia.
