Professional trials cyclist Danny Macaskill rode, hopped and climbed to the top of a Cuillin mountain ridgeline in the Isle of Skye and did something truly insane and completely remarkable: He rode down.
The Guardian spotted footage of the latest extreme athlete doing the unthinkable and posting it to the Internet for our pleasure.
The following video from Cutmedia 1 should lead to sweaty hands and general panic from those who watch it:
According to the report, the 28-year-old Scottish rider returned home and climbed to the top of Sgurr Dearg, only to return on a 7.5-mile jaunt to the bottom, a journey that took Macaskill and filmmakers 10 days to accomplish.
The finished product is nothing short of astounding. You really feel like Macaskill is walking a tightrope, just seconds from toppling over the side.
The whole thing begins with the maestro pondering the ridge, "Growing up in Skye, the Cuillins for me have always been a sort of very inaccessible place." Macaskill continues, "There's an incredible knife's edge ridge that runs right on the top of them. I've always wondered whether it would be possible to ride my mountain bike up there."
He rides, hops and travels up the seemingly insurmountable ridge and manages to accomplish far more on the way down.
You never think a simple YouTube video could be exhilarating, but then you watch one man bike down a fine line to the bottom of a gloriously beautiful ridge.
