Those near the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra, Australia, with a severe hankering for animal appreciation might consider the Jamala Wildlife Lodge, where you can sleep just feet away from a very large carnivorous animal.
Business Insider's Dennis Green reports on the new hotel that sits perfectly within a zoo, giving visitors a truly rare experience with the animals that live there.
Green breaks it down quite perfectly: "At the lodge, guests will almost be directly sharing a room with live animals. You can take a bath next to brown bears, dine with lions staring at you, and feed giraffes from your balcony - and that's just the start. Often, the only thing separating guests from the animals is a few millimeters of glass."
The lodge's Facebook page features images like the following, showing how close you are to meandering animals:
That tiger isn't tired; it's frustrated beyond belief. We imagine this is the human equivalent of having to sleep next to an unbreakable glass case containing a medium rare rib eye steak when you have the munchies at two in the morning.
And thankfully YouTube offers a fantastic glimpse of the beautiful and rather remarkable resort.
The following starts with a peek at the room that lets you stay right next to swimming sharks:
As you can see, a stay at the zoo is immersive beyond your imagination, allowing you to eat next to the animals as well as feed some yourself.
Here is another look at how you might feed hungry lions.
Obviously you want more information on this magical place that is perfectly crafted for animal lovers around the world. The Jamala Wildlife Lodge website states the resort "offers three accommodation precincts - uShaka Lodge, Giraffe Treehouses and Jungle Bungalows, each with their own unique wildlife experience."
The prices for each range from $400 (AUD) per night ($150 for each extra person) for a stay from Sunday to Thursday to $2,000 for a Saturday stay in a master suite.
Now there are some specials: the lodge is offering 20 percent off in February and 10 percent off in March. The price of the room comes with entry to the zoo, meals (breakfast and dinner) and private zoo tours.
So if you ever wanted to hobnob with wildlife, the Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers just that, getting you as close as humanly possible to sleeping next to lions.
