Despite what you may have previously thought, superstars, celebrities and people who are generally better than the population at large can and do ride in the economically practical comfort offered by public transportation.
The latest piece of evident to support the claim is an image snapped off by Instagram user Jason Lowe who had the distinction of being the person who was across the aisle from Dame Helen Mirren on a New York City Subway recently. (h/t Gothamist)
While a similar set of circumstances would normally have resulted in the polite and inaudible muttering of "Is that Helen Mirren? That's totally Helen Mirren," Mr. Lowe had the wherewithal to snap off a picture for posterity.
As Gothamist notes, Mirren has been seen plenty of times around the New York area, enjoying the relaxing confines of subway cars.
The report has a wealth of tweets that hint at a very real adoration for the subway system, such as this gem from last April:
Business Insider, however, reminds us that the subways are oft times filled with celebrities, like a very loud, musty Academy Awards after-hours party.
For example, there was this sighting of a very famous person riding in a subway next to people who are not famous at all:
That is Tom Hanks, proving that you can star in movies like Big, Forrest Gump and Saving Private Ryan and still think it natural to ride the subway.
Business Insider even notes there is a Tumblr dedicated to images of celebrities riding along in the subway, which is as adorable as Grumpy Cat enjoying a day at the local zoo.
All of this is charming but also proves the New York City subway system, as large and boisterous as it might be, is utilized by just about everyone in the city.
From the person working a double shift uptown to the actor who is acknowledged by the British honors system, the New York City subway is a fine conveyance, and the Internet has the pictures to prove it.
