According to reports, a BBC theme park may open as early as 2020, featuring attractions dedicated to such fare as Sherlock and Doctor Who.
This is like one of those fixed moments in time where all of history is irrevocably changed…and I just had a mini-nerd stroke.
The Guardian's Mark Sweney reports BBC Worldwide, in conjunction with Paramount Pictures, is working to build, "a new £2bn theme park and holiday resort to be built by the Thames estuary in north Kent."
Let out a bellowing "Geronimo!" and make arrangements for 2020, because this news is simply "Fantastic!"
According to the report, London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) signed a deal that gives it the opportunity to incorporate, "the corporation's intellectual property at the London Paramount Entertainment Resort."
Great, now we have to shave:
Easter 2020 remains the calendar date for any launch of attractions, which might also include Top Gear and other BBC shows. The report also hints that Paramount being part of the deal makes this even better news than you could have imagined, reminding that the studio owns the rights to features such as Star Trek. Make it so. Please, just make it so.
LRCH's director David Testa seems nearly as giddy:
"The BBC has played an instrumental role in shaping the British entertainment industry for nearly a century, creating some of the most iconic and cherished characters on TV and radio. It seems only right therefore that its programmes will be present at the new London Paramount Entertainment Resort, which will combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture."
BBC News has more details on an area stated as 900-acres in size: "Plans for the former cement works also include Hollywood-inspired rides, a water attraction, a 2,000-seat theatre and 5,000 hotel rooms."
If ever there were a moment to hop into a TARDIS and sail into 2020 for the opening it would be this. Then again, we would have a TARDIS and not much need for any other ride, so forget the park and gives us the blue box.
Fictional fantasies aside, what we really want is a Top Gear race track that allows us to beat the Stig at his own game, a time traveling simulator and a maze we have to use deduction to escape from.
This is not too much to ask, especially seeing as how one of our wishes has nearly been granted already.
