If anyone offers to drive you to the Himalayas, you might want to politely decline, opting for a route that doesn't feature a narrow road next to delightful death drop.
The following video recently found fame on websites like Reddit and Digg, featuring travelers making their way up a treacherous stretch of road.
YouTube user Egemen Yildirim uploaded the following with the simple caption, "Insane Bus Ride in The Himalayas! Getting To The Mountains Is Exciting As Climbing Them."
You might agree after seeing this:
As best we can tell, this is a portion of the famed Road to the Himalayas, which made it to No. 2 in Complex Magazine's "World's 10 Most Dangerous Roads" list.
According to the article, the stretch of road can be found along India's portion of the Tibetan region.
The article cautions, "Among the dangerous sections of road in the region is the notorious Zojila Pass. The 11,578-foot high road, which lies on the lower depression of the Himalayan range, is nothing more than a one-lane crumbling dirt trail that hugs some of the tallest mountains in the world, with imminent death waiting for those who show up unprepared."
Life lesson: Be prepared.
No. 1 on the list is Bolivia's Yungas Road, which you might know by its more menacing moniker, "Road of Death." As it turns out, the nickname is rather appropriate as it produces, "100-200 fatalities each year."
Thanks to the popular show Top Gear, we get a glimpse of a stretch of road that can apparently make levelheaded hosts take a machete to a colleague:
For some reason traffic jams and potholes don't seem all that annoying. In fact, any two-lane highway now seems absolutely spacious by comparison.
We leave the scaling of these truly dangerous roads to the professionals and those brave enough to ride shotgun.
