The Riviera Maya remains one of Mexico's most reliable all-inclusive destinations and few properties illustrate its range better than Princess Hotels’ complex in Playa del Carmen.

The Grand Sunset Princess, Grand Riviera Princess and Princess Family Club Riviera share a stretch of white-sand beach and much of their infrastructure but each caters to a distinct type of traveler. For advisors booking clients into this corner of the Mexican Caribbean, it helps to know what each one offers.

Grand Sunset Princess

Grand Sunset Princess and its sister property Grand Riviera Princess sit directly across from one another, so guests share pools, restaurants and grounds no matter which side they book. Grand Sunset Princess offers roughly 650 rooms, including Deluxe Junior Suites with pool access as well as Platinum rooms and Laguna Villa Suites for travelers who want extra privacy. The resort's seven a la carte restaurants cover Italian, Mexican, Asian, seafood and Swiss cuisine alongside a 24-hour sports bar and a large spa and fitness complex.

Grand Riviera Princess

As the anchor property of the complex Grand Riviera Princess offers 674 rooms across the same range of categories, including Platinum beachfront suites and the tranquil Laguna Villas tucked into tropical landscaping. Guests here have access to 12 swimming pools total across the shared grounds along with a water park, Mini Club for younger children and the same seven-restaurant dining lineup. It is also home base for weddings and events, with dedicated venues built into the resort layout. Golf carts and a shuttle train move guests easily between the sprawling property's sections.

Princess Family Club Riviera

Tucked within Grand Riviera Princess, Princess Family Club Riviera is a gated, family-only zone built for travelers with children. Its roughly 144 rooms include bunk-bed configurations, welcome gifts for kids and stocked minibars, and about 40 rooms offer direct pool access.

Families get exclusive use of a family pool, water park and supervised kids' club along with a themed family buffet restaurant and its an ice cream parlor.

The Takeaway

Because all three properties share dining, pools and grounds, clients are never locked out of the wider resort's amenities regardless of where they book. The real decision point is atmosphere: Grand Sunset Princess and Grand Riviera Princess suit couples, groups and general travelers, while Princess Family Club Riviera is built specifically for multigenerational trips. Knowing that distinction upfront makes it easier to match the right section of this Riviera Maya complex to the right traveler.
