When my son and I visited Beaches Turks & Caicos for the first time four years ago, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the resort and its many themed accommodation 'villages,' restaurants and activities.

It took us a few days of exploring before we felt like we truly knew our way around. So, when I received an invitation for the grand opening of the resort's recently completed expansion, my first thought was: "What else could the resort possibly need?"

Little did I know what Beaches and its Executive Chairman, Adam Stewart, had in store.

This past weekend, amid a gathering of global media, celebrities and regional dignitaries, Beaches Turks & Caicos officially debuted Treasure Beach Village, a $150 million, all-suite expansion that Stewart told TravelPulse during an on-site interview is the blueprint for what's to come at his resorts throughout the region.

Beaches 2.0: A New Chapter for Beaches Resorts

The expansion of Beaches Turks and Caicos, a resort established in 1997, introduces 101 thoughtfully designed multi-bedroom suites, two new restaurants and a 15,000-square-foot pool (including a water slide) facing world-renowned Grace Bay Beach.

The new village was designed to provide a more upscale, luxury option at the nearly 30-year-old property, creating a higher standard of dining and accommodations that will serve as the blueprint for other Beaches locations across the Caribbean.

"We call this product our 2.0 property. It's kind of a nod to my dad as the founder of the company, his legacy and what he created. The 2.0 design is a continuation of that journey of innovation," Stewart told TravelPulse during a one-on-one interview at the resort.

"Every element of design, everything that was constructed physically, is at a different level," he continued. "Things like double vanities in all the bathrooms, jacuzzi-style tubs in the guest rooms. A lot of it comes down to design."

Stewart shared these details as part of an interview that took place in Treasure Beach Village's largest accommodation: the Chairman's Three Bedroom Penthouse Suite, a glamorous 2809-square-foot retreat filled with custom, locally created art showcased across two levels of living space. A striking, two-level foyer with a mother-of-pearl chandelier is the heart of the space, from which there's a staircase leading up to light-filled rooms with enormous windows overlooking the resort and oceanfront below.

Downstairs, in addition to a living room, there's a full kitchen that includes a butler's pantry and entry (a key part of the new 2.0 level of luxury Beaches is rolling out across its properties.)

"I can't emphasize enough the importance of the butler and that elite experience to anticipate your needs, to take care of all of your details, whether it's restaurant reservations or lounges by the pool or beach, all of the details," explained Stewart.

The Chairman's Suite is, of course, the largest of the 101 accommodations at Treasure Beach Village. There are many other floor plans, ranging from more modest suites to accommodations large enough to sleep large, extended families or groups of travelers.

The entry-level option is the Treasure Beach Concierge Suite, a 660-square-foot space featuring one king bed, a second bedroom with a bunk bed (including a trundle under the lower bunk) and a sleeper sofa in the living space. There's also two bathrooms and a spacious balcony with a dining table and sun lounger. This was the room category my son and I stayed in, and we were joined by my friend and her son. The boys loved the bunk beds and made pillow forts on the couch in the sitting area. On the balcony dining table meanwhile, they spent afternoons putting together a puzzle or playing games.

Some of the larger floor plans include the Treasure Beach Oceanview Two-Story Two-Bedroom Butler Suite, which is just over 1,000 square feet and features one king bed, a pullout sofa bed and a bunk bed and the Treasure Beach Oceanview Two-Bedroom Family Butler Suite, which offers 1,269 square feet spread across two bedrooms and three bathrooms.

If you need even more space, there's also a Treasure Beach Oceanview Two-Story Three-Bedroom Butler Suite, which provides three bedrooms across two stories and 1798 square feet. And if you'd like to walk right out your door onto the beach, don't miss the Treasure Beach CrystalSky Four-Bedroom Reserve Villa. These guest accommodations, which look like cottages with white picket fences out front, sit right at the beach's edge. They offer 2,612 square feet of space, including three bathrooms, a private pool and a rooftop deck for suntanning and stargazing.

Thoughtfully Designed Dining Experiences

As any family traveler can attest, finding food options for your brood isn't always easy. But part of the 'luxury' of Treasure Beach Village is the way it solves that very problem.

Take Pinta, for example, a restaurant that's been dubbed a 'food hall.' Pinta was the first place my son and I dined during our recent visit, and the option we returned to again and again. Why? Because its menu features options from multiple cultures and cuisines–including Caribbean, Mexican, Italian and Asian–making it incredibly easy for families with diverse food preferences to find and option they like and dine stress-free.

In other words, the restaurant was created to address a vacation pain point that Stewart (a father himself) has experienced.

"As a parent of three, I don't think I've been to lunch once in my life where my three children wanted the same cuisine," Stewart explains with the sort of knowing, been-there-done-that, smile nearly any parent can relate to. "We're trying to be ahead of anything that can create a ripple in a vacation."

The other dining option at Treasure Beach Village (next door to Pinta) is Butch's Island Chop House, an upscale steakhouse named for Stewart's father. Serving breakfast and dinner, Butch's specializes in dry-aged steaks that are displayed in the dining room, along with Midwestern beef, fresh seafood, and a dedicated kids' menu. The dining experience here also includes mini-martinis and upgraded wines by the glass.

Evolution of a Brand

Circling back to where my conversation with Stewart began, Treasure Beach Village represents the evolution of the Sandals and Beaches brand. And evolution, Stewart told me, has always been at the heart of the company's story.

"What makes Beaches Turks & Caicos the most successful family resort in the Caribbean has always been the expanse and inclusivity of what it has. My father bought this property [which was previously a failed hotel] in 1995, and it opened as a Beaches in 1997."

Beaches Turks & Caicos started nearly 30 years ago with just 150 bedrooms and, from there, embarked on what Stewart described as a journey of taking the successful Sandals resort model and adapting it. That led to the creation of the "French Village" neighborhood of accommodations at the Turks & Caicos resort, which opened in 2000. In 2009, the resort's style evolved to include "Italian Village" accommodations. And a few years behind that came yet another evolution: "Key West Village."

Today, Beaches Turks & Caicos, with the addition of Treasure Beach Village, encompasses 30 restaurants, 4,500 feet of beach, and a diverse mix of one-, two, three-, and four-bedroom villas and suites.

"The piece of land we're sitting on, our family acquired in 2006 and it was always bought with the vision of creating something at a different sort of standard," adds Stewart. "The Sandals and Beaches story is one of continued evolution in terms of brand standards, gastronomy, scuba diving and water sports. Along with the water parks and the kids facilities. With each village we open, there is more to offer."

Come back tomorrow for a follow-up story that provides more of my interview with Stewart, including details about what's on the horizon for Beaches over the coming five years.
