In the fall of 1835, British naturalist Charles Darwin visited the Galápagos Islands—a journey that ultimately helped give rise to his theory of natural evolution.
Now, more than 190 years later, Finch Bay Galápagos Hotel is celebrating Darwin’s historic visit by launching new experiences designed to immerse guests in the natural, cultural and historical richness of Santa Cruz Island.
The hotel, which opened in 1976 and is owned and operated by Metropolitan Touring, is located next to the beach in Puerto Ayora. Offering 33 rooms and suites, including six new luxury accommodations that debuted last year, the property features an al fresco bar, a swimming pool, a fine-dining restaurant, a native garden, a spa and a fitness center.
The hotel’s in-house expedition team has developed new experiences that are included with every stay. They are:
- Sunrise Walk to Tortuga Bay: Begin the day with a 4.4-mile, two-hour dawn walk through quiet trails to one of the Galápagos’ most iconic beaches.
- Morning Nature Stroll: A gentle 0.6-mile walk near the hotel that lasts about 45 minutes.
- Snorkeling From the Beach: With provided snorkeling equipment, guests can admire tropical fish, rays, sea turtles and other creatures in the hotel’s secluded, mangrove-green bay.
- Art & Culture Walk in Puerto Ayora: Travelers can enjoy an evening stroll through galleries, artisan shops and local workshops during this 90-minute tour.
- Finch Bay Talks: These engaging 20-minute evening sessions feature stories about the islands’ geology, wildlife and human history.
- Stargazing: The hotel’s expedition manager guides guests through the celestial map from the hotel’s beach deck.
Guests can also book other activities, including kayaking, swimming, diving, spa treatments, yacht day trips and ceviche and cocktail classes.
