Those into the diving, birding and archaeology of Belize will have a fresh option with the brand's highly anticipated Resort at Mahogany Bay Village with brand partner Curio - A Collection by Hilton. When it debuts, the 205-room retreat will be the first Hilton Worldwide property in Belize, as well as the first luxury resort from any global brand in that country on the eastern coast of Central America.

Situated on Ambergris Caye some 15 miles from the mainland and 10 minutes from the San Pedro Airport, the rustic-chic resort will be perched on a 60-acre property that features cottage and villa-style rooms, private residences, a spa, meeting spaces, "The Village" public space, and bay and beach clubs.

The borderless community is being designed to encourage travelers to go outdoors and explore Belize's natural wonders. By blending the Curio Collection's authentic local spirit with the country's unique character, the property will serve as a springboard for Belizean adventures.

"The opportunity to develop The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village came at an opportune time and with a well-matched partner," says Juan Corvinos, Hilton Worldwide's managing director, Development, Central America, Andean and Hispanic Caribbean regions.

"Paired with Mahogany Bay's hospitality expertise, eco-friendly practices and focus on supporting the local community, our first Hilton Worldwide property in Belize will elevate accommodation offerings in the country, and allow travelers to discover the true local flavor and spectacular natural beauty of Ambergris Caye and Belize."

Made of sustainably harvested hardwoods, the Belizean-style villas will feature "heirloom quality" furnishings and lofty ceilings. The resort's Village will merge with downtown San Pedro via a craft and farmer's market, general store, fishing and diving operators, and tour coordinator and concierge.

Guests can truly dive into the local vibe by enjoying savory coffee at Rum and Bean, Taco Shack lunch specialties, organic fresh vegetables harvested daily from Ambergreens and local cuisine at the resort's all-day restaurant.

The property's 22,000-square-foot Great House will deliver a wrap-around covered veranda plus 8,000 square feet of function space. For weddings, a specially designated Bride's Room will pamper with a weddings dressing room and 12-seat venue for private affairs.

For offsite options, the Resort at Mahogany Bay Village is situated for easy access to nearby watersports, restaurants, entertainment and wildlife attractions. Guests can be swept away by area rainforests, pristine white sand beaches, ziplines and river caves. Coral reefs, Mayan ruins and stellar fishing are only a few minutes away.

During the construction phase, Hilton will prioritize preservation of natural resources by minimizing waster and utilizing local materials. The company will maintain operating and construction standards to avoid impacting local coral reefs. It will also employ smart architectural designs to reduce the need for air conditioning and to elevate airflow.

"With its luxury accommodations, beautiful location, environmentally-sustainable design and integration with the local community, we can't wait to welcome guests to The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village," says Dianna Vaughan, senior vice president and global head, Curio - A Collection by Hilton and DoubleTree by Hilton. "By simultaneously reflecting the local culture and providing remarkable service, The Resort at Mahogany Bay Village will exemplify the Curio collection's distinctive character."

Launching in 2014, Curio - A Collection by Hilton is a global set of handpicked luxury and upscale hotels meeting independent-minded travelers' needs for authentic experiences and local discovery. In that process, it will provide the quiet support and reassurance of the Hilton name and its award-winning Hilton HHonors program.

Hilton Worldwide currently has a portfolio of 90-plus hotels and resorts - including 14 properties in Central America - that welcomes Latin America travelers. The company is actively pursuing additional growth opportunities in Latin America and currently has a robust pipeline of more than 50 hotels throughout the region. Among these is a pair of Curio properties in Honduras and Costa Rica.
