On Sunday, a Lufthansa flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Hamburg, Germany, after crew members felt one passenger's erratic behavior was threatening the safety of the other people on the plane.
According to CBC.ca, Lufthansa Flight LH476 was en route from Munich to Vancouver when the flight crew made the decision to divert the plane to Hamburg due to the actions of one of the passengers.
Police in Germany told local media outlets that a rescue crew and a doctor met the plane upon landing and diagnosed the unnamed passenger with a mental disorder. No charges were filed against the man, but he was taken to a local psychiatric facility for testing.
"It was reported that there was a man in the back of the plane screaming and yelling and apparently tried to open the back door of the aircraft at 38,000 feet," passenger Dan Iosch told CBC.ca. "Apparently at the beginning of the flight he was being a little difficult, but they decided to take off. I guess once we got in the air he got more and more agitated and he tried to light up a cigarette. He was yelling and screaming."
"The captain was amazing," Iosch said. "He had everything in hand and he was calm, but he redirected the plane to Hamburg immediately and we were cleared in straight away."
Lufthansa Flight LH476 arrived safely in Vancouver three hours behind the scheduled landing time.
