Princess Cruises has canceled a May 30 scheduled call to La Goulette, Tunisia, by the Emerald Princess. It will be replaced by Naples, Italy, on the Mediterranean voyage. All guests are being notified of the change.
Princess joins MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, Star Clippers and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises in cancelling calls in Tunisia. In a March 18 attack, gunmen killed 23 people at the National Bardo Museum in Tunis, including 12 passengers on the MSC Splendida and five on Costa Fascinosa.
Princess said future scheduled calls at La Goulette, the port for Tunis, "are being evaluated, as the safety and security of our guests and crew is our foremost priority. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims of the recent tragedy, and with the country of Tunisia."
Two gunmen were killed by security officers, but police were looking for a third man seen on museum surveillance cameras, according to the New York Times.
"For sure there were three, because they have been identified and filmed on surveillance cameras," President Beji Caid Essebsi said in a televised interview, the Times reported. "There is one who is on the run somewhere. But in any case, he won't get far."
