Due to yet another snow storm Monday that is impacting the Northeast United States, airlines are waiving change fees for travelers.
The spring storm is the fifth major storm since March to impact the Northeast, causing carriers such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United Airlines to issue travel alerts and waive change fees for passengers traveling to or from impacted airports.
Delta announced on its official website that the carrier proactively canceled about 80 Delta Connection regional flights to better minimize operational impact from the winter system. FlightAware.com is reporting almost 300 flights were canceled in the U.S. Monday.
Passengers traveling to or from the Northeast Monday should contact their airline to determine the status of their flight before traveling to the airport.
Some of the airports dealing with delays and cancellations include Philadelphia International, Logan International in Boston, Newark Liberty International in New Jersey and New York's John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia.
The snowy conditions are also causing many highways and roadways to become icy and slick, so travelers hitting the roads are being advised to take their time and be patient. The temperature is expected to rise throughout Monday, which should force the snow and ice to melt.
As for those who travel via rail with Amtrak, the company has not issued any advisories for Monday, indicating that service to major cities across the Northeast was not impacted. Travelers should still call ahead to ensure no delays or cancellations take place as the day progresses.
