If you're traveling to or from the Northeast United States Wednesday, Winter Storm Toby is creating major travel headaches and forcing the cancellation of almost 3,500 flights.
According to FlightAware.com, the snow, freezing rain, high winds and flooding associated with the fourth nor'easter to hit the region this month has caused flight delays and cancellations at some of the busiest airports in the country.
As of 9:20 a.m. ET, New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport was facing over 800 incoming and outgoing cancellations, while New York City's John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports are dealing with a combined 1,400-plus canceled journeys Wednesday.
Other major airports dealing with hundreds of cancellations include Philadelphia International, Boston's Logan International, Ronald Reagan Washington National, Baltimore-Washington International and Washington Dulles International.
The storm is expected to continue throughout Wednesday and extend into Thursday morning, causing airports in impacted areas to call for more cancellations in the coming days as crews continue to dig out from the snow storm.
Major airlines impacted most by the storm include American Airlines (449 cancellations), JetBlue (402), Southwest (381), United (367) and Delta (159). All carriers serving impacted airports started waiving change fees Tuesday for travelers, so those who planned to fly in or out of the region are being advised to contact their airlines to make the appropriate itinerary changes.
As for those traveling via rail, Amtrak has announced it will operate on a modified schedule Wednesday, canceling many journeys between impacted cities and planning for delays on trips to or from the Northeast. The rail company is asking travelers to call ahead to ensure their train is running Wednesday.
