Contiki Vacations, the youth tour operator, is partnering with The Matador Network, an online travel publisher, to select storytellers working in the media of photography, film or travel journalism who can demonstrate their desire and ability to make a difference in the world.
Contiki and Matador launched a competition beginning Feb. 1 to select three winners, who will receive trips and scholarships.
Entrants will be given a chance to demonstrate their creativity and passion by entering the competition at a special website.
The winners will travel on Contiki's Costa Rica Unplugged trip with filmmaker and conservationist Céline Cousteau and a Matador storyteller during Earth Month (April). While traveling they will learn about ocean conservation from Cousteau, who works with Contiki as ambassador.
They will also receive scholarships from the MatadorU online journalism program.
While in Costa Rica they will visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy Foundation, which is a partner with Contiki Cares, the part of Contiki that works toward sustainability and the preservation of the destinations and natural resources on which Contiki depends for its business. While there they will learn about the foundation's efforts to save sea turtles from extinction.
"Storytelling is such an essential part of the travel experience and we're thrilled to partner with travel advocates and storytellers at The Matador Network," said Melissa da Silva, Contiki's president. "With increased interest in sharing images and stories via social media channels like Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, this competition is a perfect opportunity for our trade partners to connect with their past, current, and potential clients and encourage them to share their own unique travel story for an amazing prize."
The contest closes Feb. 28. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from Contiki, Matador Network and Céline Cousteau.
