EcoAmerica rolled out the fifth edition of its Peru Savvy Explorer One Week Tour designed to show off the highlights of the country in a short trip with a starting price of $1,348 per person (not including air fares to or within Peru).
The package breaks Peru into four segments: Lima, the coastal capital city; Cusco, the ancient Inca city that later became a Spanish colonial city; Machu Picchu, the mysterious lost city on a mountaintop; and Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world large enough for large vessels, including a boat expedition to the Uros Floating Islands.
The trip begins with a flight to Lima and then a trip from Lima to Cusco by air. Accommodations in Cusco are at the San Agustin hotel for two nights. After touring Cusco for a day, seeing the Cathedral, the Korikancha, the Temple of the Sun, and the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, you take a train ride through the Sacred Valley along the Urubamba River to Machu Picchu.
After returning by train to Cusco for the night, the tour leaves the next morning on a scenic bus tour headed for the city of Puno on the shore of Lake Titicaca. Two days of touring in the area include a boat expedition on Lake Titicaca to the Uros Floating Islands, manmade overwater surfaces on which people live.
After two nights in Puno, the tour returns to Lima and includes a tour of the city, with historical highlights such as the Presidential and Municipal palaces; the Cathedral that houses the tomb of the Spanish Conqueror Francisco Pizarro, the museum of Religious Art and the residential areas of San Isidro and Miraflores.
