The year 2020 was a difficult one for hotel operators, but 2021 shows new promise. Hotels must also generally open to guests upon completion regardless of the demand environment to immediately begin offsetting the costs of their construction. Here are several new hotels around the world, both in favorite destinations and new up-and-comers.

Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans

The Crescent City's first luxury hotel opening in two decades will be a memorable one. The Four Seasons will boast sweeping river views from guest rooms and the 34th-floor observation deck, contemporary room designs and restaurants helmed by Louisiana chefs Donald Link and the recently announced Miss River by Chef Alon Shaya. The hotel will also have a spa, private street-level garden and a rooftop resort pool.

El Capitan, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel, Merced

Merced's El Capitan, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel, opening in March 2021, occupies a building originally built in the 19th century to serve as a hotel for railroad passengers. Guests will enjoy a pour-over coffee service in guest rooms designed around the region's free-spirited wilderness. While not exploring nearby Yosemite National Park, guests can dine at Rainbird, which features seasonal ingredients from the Central Valley.

The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart

Hobart, Tasmania's newest luxury hotel is expected to open in March 2021 in Parliament Square. Georgian and Art Deco interiors give way to cozy guest rooms with Frette linens and contemporary baths. Also planned are an upscale Italian restaurant by chef Massimo Mele and a "reimagined old-world" cocktail bar.

Newhall Mains, Black Isle, Scotland

The only luxury accommodation in Scotland to have its own private airstrip offers guests a selection of suites and cottages designed in "Highland Chic" to make their stay in the Highlands as cozy as possible. Cottages fit parties of all sizes, who receive a welcome hamper upon arrival. The resort is also convenient to public airports and a rail depot for guests arriving on the Highland Sleeper from London.

Moxy Austin - University

This new hotel will debut this spring in Austin's University area, with all the trappings of the playful Moxy brand by Marriott. Guest arrivals check in at the bar and receive a cocktail on the house with their room key. Guest rooms have walk-in showers and thoughtful storage spaces, but the focal point of the hotel is the see-and-be-seen lobby that demands communal relaxation.

The Gordon Hotel - Eugene, OR

The Cloudveil - Jackson, WY

Opening in the Spring of 2021, The Cloudveil, an Autograph Collection Hotel, will be the only hotel on Jackson's historic town square. Hilton Tahiti Resort

Hilton's third property in French Polynesia (others are in Bora Bora and Moorea) is on Tahiti, straddling the island's largest communities of Papeete and Faa'a. Guests will enjoy a resort pool with views of Moorea and quick trips into town as the closest resort from a global hospitality brand to the country's capital city. It's also convenient to the international airport and ferry terminal for guests in transit to other parts of French Polynesia.

Aloft Tulum

Guests at Aloft Tulum can relax at the rooftop infinity pool, complete with cabanas and a full bar serving local cuisine, when not busy exploring the area with a bag full of grab-and-go eats from the re:fuel station in the lobby or the W XYZ bar, which features live music by local artists.

Urashima Village - Kagawa, Japan

Situated on the Seto Peninsula, a secluded corner of the Japanese island of Shikoku, Urashima Village is a small ryokan-style inn that opened in January 2021. Parties ranging from small to medium-sized groups can book the spaces and either self-cater or have chef-provided meals while they explore the surrounding area, including Urashima Island, just a short walk across the tidal flats at low tide.

Courtyard/Residence Inn by Marriott - Jekyll Island, GA

Opening this summer as a dual-branded Marriott property on a long-vacant lot previously occupied by hotels of yore, this property brings select service brands to tranquil Jekyll Island, where "turtle crossing" road signs abound and guests seek beachfront seclusion. Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences - Singer Island, FL

Mission Pacific Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel - Oceanside, CA

Opening in May 2021, Mission Pacific Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel, occupies prime beach space near Oceanside's historic pier. The hotel, which has 161 guest rooms including 38 suites, plans to offer immersive biking, skating and surfing experiences along the shore. The hotel will also have Oceanside's only rooftop pool and bar.

Il Tornabuoni - Florence, Italy

Occupying one of Florence's oldest urban palazzos and taking reservations for late summer arrivals, Il Tornabuoni joins Italy's AG Group of boutique luxury hotels in Florence and Rome. The hotel will also have a rooftop offering views of Florence, guest floors themed in different vibrant colors and double queen beds in most rooms - a rarity for Italian accommodations.

Le Meridien Pasadena Arcadia

Mid-century modern fans will find much to love about this new hotel, opening opposite Pasadena Santa Anita Racetrack in May 2021. Le Meridien promises to bring European design ethos and a global art collection to the hotel, which will also offer guests Asian-fusion dining and a grand bar that will serve up high tea and a selection of curated highballs.

Club Med Quebec Charlevoix

In December 2021, Club Med will open their first-ever year-round mountain resort and first resort in Canada. An hour from Quebec City, the resort will feature over 300 rooms at an all-inclusive resort that offers winter skiing and all-season outdoor recreation. The property sits on over 300 acres for guest recreation, with sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River.

The Ritz-Carlton Turks & Caicos

The St. Regis Bermuda

Nestled in the historic town of St. George's, the hotel will hit all the St. Regis brand notes, with a bar serving up a locally-inspired Bloody Mary, an Iridium Spa, an 18 hole golf course and the St. Regis brand's first Casino. Opening Spring 2021.

Susurros del Corazon - Punta de Mita, Mexico

Tucked away in Punta de Mita, near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific Coast, Susurros del Corazon "Whispers of the Heart", will offer 59 guest suites, four restaurants, an outdoor patio and a spacious event lawn. When not swimming in the Pacific, hotel guests can relax by three scallop-shaped pools terraced between the resort and the white sand beach.

Hotel Drover, an Autograph Collection Hotel - Fort Worth, TX

Club Med Seychelles
