New Hotel Openings To Look for in 2021

The year 2020 was a difficult one for hotel operators, but 2021 shows new promise. Hotels must also generally open to guests upon completion regardless of the demand environment to immediately begin offsetting the costs of their construction. Here are several new hotels around the world, both in favorite destinations and new up-and-comers.

The Crescent City's first luxury hotel opening in two decades will be a memorable one. The Four Seasons will boast sweeping river views from guest rooms and the 34th-floor observation deck, contemporary room designs and restaurants helmed by Louisiana chefs Donald Link and the recently announced Miss River by Chef Alon Shaya. The hotel will also have a spa, private street-level garden and a rooftop resort pool.

Merced's El Capitan, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel, opening in March 2021, occupies a building originally built in the 19th century to serve as a hotel for railroad passengers. Guests will enjoy a pour-over coffee service in guest rooms designed around the region's free-spirited wilderness. While not exploring nearby Yosemite National Park, guests can dine at Rainbird, which features seasonal ingredients from the Central Valley.

Hobart, Tasmania's newest luxury hotel is expected to open in March 2021 in Parliament Square. Georgian and Art Deco interiors give way to cozy guest rooms with Frette linens and contemporary baths. Also planned are an upscale Italian restaurant by chef Massimo Mele and a "reimagined old-world" cocktail bar.

The only luxury accommodation in Scotland to have its own private airstrip offers guests a selection of suites and cottages designed in "Highland Chic" to make their stay in the Highlands as cozy as possible. Cottages fit parties of all sizes, who receive a welcome hamper upon arrival. The resort is also convenient to public airports and a rail depot for guests arriving on the Highland Sleeper from London.

This new hotel will debut this spring in Austin's University area, with all the trappings of the playful Moxy brand by Marriott. Guest arrivals check in at the bar and receive a cocktail on the house with their room key. Guest rooms have walk-in showers and thoughtful storage spaces, but the focal point of the hotel is the see-and-be-seen lobby that demands communal relaxation.

Part of the 5th Street Public Market, this art-forward hotel offers guest rooms with custom furnishings, a rooftop bar, tavern-style restaurant and a prime location in the city of Eugene, close to the University of Oregon and other local attractions.

Opening in the Spring of 2021, The Cloudveil, an Autograph Collection Hotel, will be the only hotel on Jackson's historic town square. In addition to a fireplace-accented lobby, occupants of the 100 guest rooms and suites can also take advantage of the outdoor garden and pool, a rooftop with views of the city and surrounding mountains and a European bistro-style restaurant by Chef Gavin Fine.

Hilton's third property in French Polynesia (others are in Bora Bora and Moorea) is on Tahiti, straddling the island's largest communities of Papeete and Faa'a. Guests will enjoy a resort pool with views of Moorea and quick trips into town as the closest resort from a global hospitality brand to the country's capital city. It's also convenient to the international airport and ferry terminal for guests in transit to other parts of French Polynesia.

Marriott is the first global hospitality brand to open a property in laid-back, bohemian Tulum. Guests at Aloft Tulum can relax at the rooftop infinity pool, complete with cabanas and a full bar serving local cuisine, when not busy exploring the area with a bag full of grab-and-go eats from the re:fuel station in the lobby or the W XYZ bar, which features live music by local artists.

Situated on the Seto Peninsula, a secluded corner of the Japanese island of Shikoku, Urashima Village is a small ryokan-style inn that opened in January 2021. Parties ranging from small to medium-sized groups can book the spaces and either self-cater or have chef-provided meals while they explore the surrounding area, including Urashima Island, just a short walk across the tidal flats at low tide.

Opening this summer as a dual-branded Marriott property on a long-vacant lot previously occupied by hotels of yore, this property brings select service brands to tranquil Jekyll Island, where "turtle crossing" road signs abound and guests seek beachfront seclusion. Both properties will feature the touchpoints of their respective brands and a shared beachfront resort pool.

Opening in the Summer of 2021, Singer Island's Amrit Ocean Resort & Residences will focus on wellness philosophies with amenities such as the Aayush Hydrothermal water therapy circuit, Ayurvedic and yoga programs and indoor/outdoor treatment rooms. Two towers (named Peace and Happiness) will house 155 resort guest rooms as part of the Preferred Hotels and Resorts LVX brand tier.

Opening in May 2021, Mission Pacific Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel, occupies prime beach space near Oceanside's historic pier. The hotel, which has 161 guest rooms including 38 suites, plans to offer immersive biking, skating and surfing experiences along the shore. The hotel will also have Oceanside's only rooftop pool and bar.

Occupying one of Florence's oldest urban palazzos and taking reservations for late summer arrivals, Il Tornabuoni joins Italy's AG Group of boutique luxury hotels in Florence and Rome. The hotel will also have a rooftop offering views of Florence, guest floors themed in different vibrant colors and double queen beds in most rooms - a rarity for Italian accommodations.

Mid-century modern fans will find much to love about this new hotel, opening opposite Pasadena Santa Anita Racetrack in May 2021. Le Meridien promises to bring European design ethos and a global art collection to the hotel, which will also offer guests Asian-fusion dining and a grand bar that will serve up high tea and a selection of curated highballs.

In December 2021, Club Med will open their first-ever year-round mountain resort and first resort in Canada. An hour from Quebec City, the resort will feature over 300 rooms at an all-inclusive resort that offers winter skiing and all-season outdoor recreation. The property sits on over 300 acres for guest recreation, with sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River.

Guests at the first Marriott property in Turks & Caicos will be looked after by the ladies and gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton. Guests can relax in private cabanas on Grace Bay beach or at the two resort pools when not dining in the resort's signature restaurants or the Ritz-Carlton Club, gaming in the casino or dozing in one of the 155 rooms and 27 suites. Opening Summer 2021.

Slated to open in a renovated historic building in the Summer of 2021, Chapter House will feature 21 guest rooms, a craft cocktail bar and an indoor spa pool. The resort also plans to introduce a selection of experiences to connect guests with the local community. The property is conveniently located directly on Old King's Highway, ideal for summer auto travelers to the Cape.

The St. Regis is going Midatlantic this spring with this new build property on St. Catherine's Beach. Nestled in the historic town of St. George's, the hotel will hit all the St. Regis brand notes, with a bar serving up a locally-inspired Bloody Mary, an Iridium Spa, an 18 hole golf course and the St. Regis brand's first Casino. Opening Spring 2021.

Tucked away in Punta de Mita, near Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific Coast, Susurros del Corazon "Whispers of the Heart", will offer 59 guest suites, four restaurants, an outdoor patio and a spacious event lawn. When not swimming in the Pacific, hotel guests can relax by three scallop-shaped pools terraced between the resort and the white sand beach.

Opening in March of 2021 in Fort Worth's revitalized Stockyards, Hotel Drover pays homage to the city's cattle ranching heritage. Guests can dine on elevated Texas cuisine at 97 West Kitchen & Bar or stroll among the fire pits at outdoor walking paths or explore the cowboy chic touches planned throughout the hotel.

Slated to open in late 2021, Roku Kyoto will be the first LXR Hotels & Resorts property in the Asia/Pacific Region. In northern Kyoto, at the foot of the Takagamine Mountains, the hotel is within walking distance to attractions such as the Kinkaku-ji "Golden Pavilion". The hotel will offer guests fine dining, on-site nature experiences and spa treatments to complement the natural hot springs.

The island of Sainte Anne in the Seychelles welcomes their first resort in March. The all-inclusive Club Med's newest property is in Marine National Park, offering villa accommodations at its eco-certified resort. Guests can take glass-bottomed kayak rides, snorkel or relax poolside when not enjoying local cuisine or taking advantage of the spa's treatments featuring local botanicals.

Walking distance from the Colosseum and other historic sites in the Eternal City, this hotel marks the first of the DoubleTree brand in Rome. Guests can sample Roman cuisine with fresh local ingredients at the hotel's signature restaurant Mamalia or head to the rooftop cocktail bar for views of the city and the hotel's signature potables. Opening Late Spring 2021.

Adventure travel explora will welcome the all-inclusive wilderness lodge in Argentinian Patagonia in October 2021, during the southern spring. Designed in the style of a Patagonian estancia, guests can take in the extraordinary surroundings - glaciers, fragrant forests, pure alpine air - on included nature walks before returning to unwind in the minimalist guest rooms or at the resort spa.

Opened in February 2020, the Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island offers views of Yas Bay and is in close proximity to Abu Dhabi's top attractions. Passes to Yas Island Theme Park are included with each stay, or guests can choose to unwind at the resort pool complex or in one of the four bars and restaurants.

The ultra-luxe all-inclusive experience comes to Punta de Mita in June of 2021. Aside from 363 oceanview suites, there are seven bars and lounges accompanying seven resort restaurants, a private beach area and a rooftop infinity pool. Families are also well-accommodated with connecting rooms, separate clubs for kids and teens, and plenty of water activities to pass the days.

This February 2021 opening, located next to the Adelaide Central Market, pays homage to the city's commercial roots with guest room and public space design, particularly the city's famed festivals and historic involvement in copper mining. Restaurants endeavor to capture the spirit of the nearby market in energy and cuisine, with the ground floor Market & Meander serving modern Australian, or the rooftop Merrymaker offering seafood, smoked meats and inventive mixology.

Constructed from sustainable materials and sitting in the midst of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in AlUla in northwestern Saudi Arabia, this hotel plans to capitalize on the country's recent decision to issue tourism visas. Guests can indulge in a wellness center for yoga sessions and spa services when not exploring the region's fantastical stone arches or enjoying Middle Eastern cuisine at the hotel's restaurant or lounging by the pool.

Hotel Effie, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, opened in February on Florida's Emerald Coast. The hotel features 250 rooms and suites, four restaurants by Chef Hugh Acheson and the area's only rooftop pool. Guests also have access to the full complement of amenities and attractions within the Sandestin Golf & Beach resort including miles of white sand beach, four championship golf courses and a marina.

In Jeju, South Korea's premier resort area, is the new Grand Hyatt, clocking in at a whopping 1,600 rooms and suites across two high-rise towers and no less than 14 bars and restaurants. Guests will also enjoy ocean views, Jeju's largest outdoor deck and a state-of-the-art casino.

Towering over Chapultepec Park on Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma, The Ritz-Carlton will take up residence in the heart of everything. Spa rituals will draw on thousands of years of local healing know-how, and guests can also unwind at the hotel's Club Level or at the property's bars and restaurants, one of which will feature a Chef's Table concept so diners can experience global cuisine tempered by the city's vaunted culinary culture.

Bermudiana Beach Resort, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is slated to open in 2021 and will offer guests rooms with views of the ocean just steps away from the pink sand Marley Beach. Located in Southlands Park, just 15 minutes away from the capital at Hamilton, the resort will offer two pools, a clifftop bar and restaurant and beach access.

The Cambodian capital has a new luxury lodging option complete with a rooftop restaurant, pool, spa and Regency Club. Guest rooms feature marble baths and Cambodian-inspired design, and a number of bars and restaurants are planned to join the two already in operation.

Although Goa is known as India's bohemian beach community, Hilton Goa is set away from the ocean, on the terraces of the Saipem Hills overlooking the Nerul River. The resort offers three restaurants, four outdoor pools and a kid's club for family travelers. For those wanting to explore the beaches, that can be arranged; staff can also help with tips on nearby bicycle trails or arrange luxury coastal cruises.

Designed with younger groups of travelers in mind, Kinship Landing is now open in the New South End of Colorado Springs. Guests check in at a jade bedecked bar in an "urban jungle" designed community space. Guest rooms range from lofted bunk rooms to suites with roll-up doors, fireplaces and deep-soaking tubs. Concierges are available by text 24 hours to help guests explore the region.

Omnidirectional views of San Antonio feature prominently at this Thompson Hotel, now open in The Alamo City. Whether from guest rooms, the rooftop restaurant slated to open in March or the expansive fourth-floor pool deck, guests will take in city views from nearly every point in this brand new hotel tower just steps from the city's top attractions.

In downtown Chattanooga's entertainment district, guests at The Kinley, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, can enjoy a convivial day-to-night lobby bar when not exploring local attractions. When it's time to retire, spacious guest rooms with custom-made mattresses await.

Managed by Grace Bay Resorts, Rock House, which is slated to open in the fall of 2021, draws inspiration from the Mediterranean. Standalone units with private infinity pools and outdoor shower gardens share space with limestone cliffs and a European-style serviced jetty, a spa, fitness center and jogging trails. Rock House will also feature the longest infinity-edge pool on the island.

Guest rooms at this new Hyatt Regency feature wood accents and other design themes inspired by Nile river boats. Spa rooms have jetted tubs, and a number of the rooms and suites have the ultimate Cairo amenity - views of the Pyramids at Giza.
