Traveling during the summer can be a headache, but Amtrak is offering discounted fares on its Auto Train by offering people a cheaper and safer alternative to the madness that can be Interstate 95.
Passengers who purchase one regular full adult ticket between now and May 21 will be eligible to save 30 percent on a companion fare for the Auto Train when traveling between June 1 and Aug. 31.
What's more, children are 50 percent off every day. Travelers will also be eligible to save $50 on the standard vehicle fare. Due to limited seating and some restrictions, however, customers must use promotional code H279 when booking a reservation.
During the promotional period, customers who bring their vehicle on the Amtrak Auto Train will be charged a $198 vehicle fare, which is $50 less than the normal summer price of $248. The train travels between Virginia and Florida, and allows passengers to transport their personal vehicles-including cars, vans, SUVs, motorcycles and small boats or jet-skis.

Once onboard the Auto Train, passengers will have access to free Wi-Fi, super-wide seats, expansive legroom and electrical outlets at every seat. Dinner and continental breakfast are included in the price of the ticket, and upgrades to Priority Vehicle Offloading are also available.
The Amtrak Auto Train is the longest passenger train in the world and utilizes two locomotives to maneuver 40 or more passenger rail cars and vehicle carriers up and down the east coast, allowing customers to avoid the I-95 headaches.
