Bad weather has forced Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas to remain docked in New Jersey, rather than sailing toward the Bahamas.
The vessel is parked at Cape Liberty in Bayonne amid a powerful nor'easter, leaving thousands of passengers stuck for the time being, reports WFMZ.
At last check, the vessel was scheduled to depart on Tuesday, October 14—two days later than planned.
“Down in the Bahamas, it was up in the 80s, maybe like 85. Now it's cold here so I really feel bad for them,” said Elaine McElroy, a passenger who got off the previous cruise.
The same storm brought flooding, rain and wind guests of up to 40 miles per hour to the East Coast. At least one person died as a result of the weather, a 76-year-old woman in Brooklyn who was hit by a solar panel while she was on a sidewalk.
New York City, Long Island and Westchester County declared a state of emergency, and airports are experiencing major travel delays and cancellations.
