For the computer geek in all of us, Seabourn Cruise Line will be embarking on a journey this December featuring Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak as keynote speaker.
To many fans, Woz is an icon. As one of the early popularizers of the personal computer, he won the National Medal of Technology in 1985 and was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame in 2000.
Not only will passengers get to hear choice behind-the-scenes stories from an ideal keynote speaker like Wozniak, a luxury cruise ship loaded with modern amenities will be at their disposal.
The 20-day voyage on the 450-passenger Seabourn Odyssey will depart from Fort Lauderdale Dec. 15, travel through the Panama Canal, then arrive at the final destination of Los Angeles Jan. 4.
While it will be great for passengers to hear from Wozniak about the creation of the Apple brand and his relationship with Steve Jobs, there is a disturbing lack of nerd-friendly theme cruises catering to a largely untapped demographic.
Where is the cruise featuring Martin Cooper, the father of the cell phone? Why can't I sail the open seas with Shigeru Miyamoto, the inventor of the Super Mario video game series? How have we not booked a comic-themed voyage with Stan Lee?
Everywhere you look, there are themed cruises featuring top stars in music, movies and sports, but nary a mention of the men and women who used technology to change the world. Kudos to Seabourn for finally appealing to a market screaming for more theme cruises.
